Question Horn with 944 turned off?

Hi,

Today's stupid question:

Is my memory bad? Does the 944 horn work when the car is completely turned off? Even with the key out of the ignition? I swear it should. It is weird for a car not to be able to honk in any situation. Safety feature, right? My A/V guy does great work, including removing my dashboard for getting it capped with a new vinyl top by an upholstery place (thank you Classic9Leather for selling me the vinyl; it looks fabulous having a non-cracked dash). But as great as my A/V guy is, I swear he put the steering wheel back together wrong, because I only have horn functionality with the car turned on (not necessarily running, but with the key turned to power). Ah...isn't that wrong? He insists it isn't, but....it is not correct, right?...

Help!

Horn does not work unless the ignition is on. You are correct that newer cars can honk at any time.

Ah, so I'm going to have to offer a mea culpa to my a/v guy Milton! Thank you!

Don't feel bad, I find it strange too. But it's also kinda nice when your putting the horn pad back on your steering wheel. What's really fun is trying to get the steering wheel back straight again (because people other than myself keep putting the momo back on it, and then putting the stock wheel on crooked) and the horn wire is flopping loose in the column honking at everyone randomly. Next time I'll think of electrical tape... Course I thought that last time too...

Depends if it’s early or late car.

I checked schematics for early and late 944 cars before posting above, since I only have experience with my early car. Same, no horn with ignition off.

It is possible the schematic is wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. I've checked all three years of the S2, it shows the horn relay coil being powered from the 15 bus, but not how, 15 is ignition switched power.
