Default New struts bad out of box??????

I just got a set of front Boges and although they are new with straps, they seem soft, meaning that I can SLOWLY push the rod in from being completely extended. If I try to push quickly, there is MUCH more resistance. Is this right? I vaguely remember the last time I did struts for my old car and I thought that those new struts, although poor quality(KYB for 240sx,) were very difficult to push in. All help appreciated, I want to make sure these are good struts before I put 'em on.

Sounds about right - you should certainly be able to slowly push the piston down.
