Test pipe?
What you guys mean when you say test pipe?
I want to delete my cat because its dead for shore (I can hear stones in my exhaust pipes),and I want to know if there will be some changes in power or consumption.And what is better,a strait 3"pipe,a muffler or my old cat hammered inside?Thanks

Get a test pipe as it will be better then a cat that you try to gut unless you can cut it and weld it back together. You don't need an 3" unless you are making a lot of power. I see it's an 924S so just go with a standard 2.5" one for about 250$ or you can have your cat cut open and cleaned out and welded probably wouldn't cost to much to do that.

I have one that i custom made. I took the old cat....cut it out, and welded in a straight pipe from home depot. The power gain is quite noticable especially when changing gears at high rpms. However, along with power you get more noise and a very loud vibratoin at certain rpms. This was true with the bursch exhaust i tried as well.
Eventually, i went back to bone stock and i dont regret it

why not just cut the car off and weld up a 2 1/4" straight pipe up to it? If its a stock 924S, itd be just like a factory European exhaust. I'm doing the same thing to an old downpipe of mine.

i think im going to have a small tank filled with deisel fuel that will slowly be pumped into my exhaust so i can get a sweet smoke effect... It will look like im roasting my tires at all times. man that would be awesome

I have been thinking of doing a test pipe as well. I want to weld some joints into the ends of it so i can unbolt it and bolt the cat back in when i need to.

When im done with my manifolds, I'm cutting that f*&^ker off and welding in a 2.5 in pipe. Since all my cars are registered in NE PA I don't get emmisions testing, so I have no need for a cat. I can pass inspection w/o it.
The only thing you have to worry about is the O2 sensor, if you weld a pipe in or even have one made you have to get a bung put in for it.
I don't know if they even do emmisions in Romainia, so you might be lucky.

Well we have restriction talking about emission but my o2 sensor is worn as well but still pas emission test(friend help!).I will easily weld a pipe ( I am mechanical engineer) but I was curious about what to put instead.

Has anybody tried welding a glasspack in there?
Don't use a glass pack. They are some of the most restrictive mufflers out there
The only truly restrictive style of muffler is a chambered one, like the stock rear muffler. You can tell it's chambered if you hold it up and can't see out the other side. This means that the gases have to make a few 180 deg zig-zags before they reach the tailpipe. Great for sound deadening, but horrible for power.
The most free-flowing style is a straight-through muffler, or a glasspack. You can hold them up and look through tem like a telescope. They have small (1/4") baffles that allow them to absorb some sound, while retaining the most flow possible.
On ALL of my performance exhausts for ALL of my cars, I ALWAYS add a glasspack to it. It makes the sound more "mature" and adds a deeper tone, and doesn't add any restriction to the flow. Without it, straight-thru exhaust systems are too "buzzy" for my taste. The glasspack rememdies this.

I just took pipe off the header, took all of it down muffler and all got a 3/4 piece of pipe and broke the cat up shook it out of the pipe and the muffler and put it back on. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL WITH THIS!!!

Correction: I unbolted the pipe just past the cat and crushed it up through that hole and shook the pieces out either end. Doing this on on a '86 n/a was not a big deal took about an hour. and it was free, no cutting or welding. I an surprised that this not been suggested as an option. Oh by the way it made a nice difference in the car all the way around!!
