Default Extra wires in center consol radio area

I recently became the owner of a 1988 924. I am going through the process of updating the car to make it more reliable and functional. The current project is replacing the broken radio and speakers and adding USB charging ports.

The new radio is an Alpine W650 with Infinity speakers. The double DIN unit is going in the center dash where they had the space for the mono speaker. It almost fits!!

It is all wired and works! I am now in the process of putting the center console back together and find 3 wires that I do not know what they are used for.

The middle wire is a ground. what are the other two used for?
I suspect the ground and one of the wires are for a missing light on the heater control panel. This is clearly not the first time the center console was removed, Quite a few missing screws.

I assume a light goes in the back of the heater control panel where I have the circle. Is that correct?

And below is the work in progress.

Thanks for the help,

Steven Guterman
