Default Mirror Glass Falling Off

Hey All,
Was driving the 86 951 yesterday and was accelerating from a standstill when my driver's side mirror's glass fell to the ground and shattered. It scared the crap outa me, but now more importantly I need a new piece of glass for the mirror.....It looks like the old mirror was attached with some sort of dark gray adhesive that is now slick to the touch.

Any ideas on where I can get a new piece of glass, and more importantly ahs this happened to anyone else?

Thanks,
Peter

Did you lose the whole assembly? As in the locking ring worked itself loose or did it come unglued?

This happened to me. I think it was because I accidently left the defroster switch on too long and it must have overheated the adhesive. I got a new piece of glass from parts heaven: http://www.partsheaven.com

The assembly is still there, the glass came unglued :-(

Matt,
Thanks for the advice. I sent an e-mail over to Parts Heaven to check and see if they have any in stock. How did you go about re-attaching the glass?

Thanks,

Peter

Cool

Yes... but was more fortunate in that the mirror did not break when it hit the parking lot pavement. Just cleaned it and glued it back on!!!

i find liquid nails "perfect glue" line to be fantastic, i believe that's what i used on my mirror, as well as a million other things.

This happened to my passenger side glass, bought one off Rennlist, and used epoxy to glue it back on.

I had this happen, but there was a little retaining wire attached to the glass? Maybe it was attached to the piece the glass is glued to.
