Last week I bought an AFM from a member here. I was gone all week and got home today (Friday) to find out from my neighbor that the AFM was left outside my door on Monday.
UPS and US Mail won't leave a package on a doorstep at an apt. complex but unless the shipper specifies otherwise Fed Ex will. This is the second time that this has happened and there won't be a third.
Just FYI.

i don't know how it works at apt.'s but i know UPS leaves their products outside the house even when you are not home. Alot of times though they will try hiding behind something except they leave a big not saying where it is.

I've had just the opposite experience. FedEx always leaves a note and UPS just drops the box.
The last time I had a shipment from FedEx, they tried to deliver it about noon and left a note when no one was at the house. I drove the 8 miles to the terminal and picked it up at 2 pm, but they're open until 9pm.
Since I'm rarely at home when FedEx delivers, I asked them if there was anyway to tell them to drop the box or just hold it at the terminal. They told me that I could add the special instructions when I place the order, like leave on the deck at the rear of the house. And they also allow you to ship to their terminal address where they will hold it until you pick it up.
Its sort of hard to get UPS to hold a box at their terminal. And UPS next day service is not reliable in my experience.
So if I need it quick, I use FedEx. UPS or USPS for ground service.

I had UPS leave a pistol on my doorstep once that I transferred under my license.
I was not happy when I got back home a few hours later. Said "Signature Required" on the box too.

In talking with the delivery drivers, Fedex/UPS specify certain areas where the drivers can/can't leave the packages without the signature. Though, I suspect that it's really at the driver's discretion.
However, if you don't sign for it, they are still liable.
