Mint 1987 Mazda Turbo II - 75K miles - $5,000
Older fellow at work just bought a Crossfire and is now selling his 1987 Mazda Turbo II. He is the first owner, only 75K miles and in excellent condition. Im sure tempted, but if anyone here wants this car, its a good deal IMO. Sure its not a 951, but this car has excellent performance for a bargain price.

The N/A ones are reliable..but turbo ones..my sister had one..your lucky if you get 80K on the motor
cheaper to get a new one then to rebuild
hard to work on it

My 87 Turbo II was very reliable.
I bought it with just a little over 70K miles. I turned the boost up to 15lbs. and drove it like I stole it until about 130k miles. When I sold it there was only a small puff of smoke upon starting. You can rev them at 6500 rpm's all day long and not even worry about it. Ofcourse, I always used Mobil 1 and maintained it properly.

i'd say they're definitely easier to work on than a 944, lots less in the engine bay. friend of mine did a lot of work on his, of course his needed it, he blew 2 engines in 2 years.
your mileage may vary.

Me and my buddy bought a mint 90 RX7 convertible and a wrecked low mileage Turbo II and swapped everthing including: suspension, drivetrain, engine, harness, hood and wheels into the convertible.
It was a little heavier being a convertible but sure was sweet having a ragtop Turbo. It turned alot of heads and people always said,"I did'nt know Mazda ever made an RX7 Turbo convertible" heh

My turbo II is somewhat reliable after spending over $5k on the engine, clutch, flywheel, labor, etc..
It still has issues, but I can take the car on long trips without worrying about it leaving me stranded. People might argue the engines are reliable, but thats b/s because the slightest detonation will cause the engine to go. Too many things can go wrong. If it was around $3k I would def buy it. But for 75k miles you can expect a rebuild soon.
I'm a week away from getting cash for my TII, but I'm pretty happy to get rid of it! Now I'm going to purchase a 951 I say use the money towards a 951.
Stock IC is limited, injectors, etc.. Once you turn your car over 10psi you can expect to change the injectors, ic to a fmic, blah blah. Too many things to list.

The 2nd gen turbos are fairly reliable...I had no problems with mine that probably had 160K on the original motor (there was some odometer fraud from previous owners) until the turbo self destructed and the engine started to loose compression, but that was probably because I ran regular gas in it (I didn't know any better). I've had a few n/a's and they run forever. They are great cars that were obviously modeled after a certain front engine porsche. I wouldn't buy another S4 ('86-88) again though...the S5 ('89-91) had a lot of the bugs worked out, most came with a torsen LSD as opposed the the S4's clutch pack, and look better.
