They have the off brand stuff for really cheap. Hey! It works and nobody wants to steal it!
Haha...good point! I'm not a big sound guy, so as long as I can hear my songs reasonably clear, I'm happy.

And as long as it doesnt add weight, cut up the dash or look gaudy/ghetto.

I'm very pleased with this machine I picked up a few weeks ago:

It's a 10 (?) year old Blaupunkt, but it has a nice 10 Disc changer with it, and I think it fits perfectly in the Type 1 style dash
I picked it up for 85 bucks or so, from a local guy (through ad on the internet, amazingly enough he lives in the same town as I do )

If I was *that* concerned about weight, I wouldn't have a radio in the car. Or the speakers for that matter!

But I certainly am not one who adds a box of speakers to the back of the car. That's much too ghetto for a Porsche anyway...that belongs in a Honda.

Julie-

You should go with the Monteray for $35 that UD Pride has! Single CD up front...all I would need! No 200 watts though!

Im not sure what your price range is, but look at Alpines. I have a 9815 in my car, it has features out the *** and has the excellent Alpine build quality and it looks pretty good. Also im quite happy with the folder navigation and such. Yes of course it plays MP3s.

It also has face tilting (press a button and it will tilt the entire face to 3 different angles, plus flat) so itll be quite usable in the older style consoles.

Theres newer ones (9830s etc) and those are basically mine with diff displays and stuff. Theres also the 9811 and 98 something else, they look almost identical, just different light colors and lesser features. They also play MP3s tho.

BTW the "No Title" bit, it lets you label radio stations, I hadnt set them yet.

My kenwood cd/mp3 player loads mp3s instantaneously, no load time. mp3s that flow into one another contiguously do so without the slightest audible click. Plus, it looks cool.

You really ought to try out Sirius satelite radio, its great not to have to listen to commercials or deal w/ cds etc. Its going to have all the NFL games starting this year. I have 4 units and the radios are not any more than normal and they can play mp3 and cds. Just a thought. Good luck! Scott

You don't even need the amp, just upgrade the speakers or even leave your stock ones in (like mine, for now). It will defenitly satisfy your needs and for the price, it's a great deal.

If anyone wants it, I have the original system from my 944S2. Blaupunkt cassette, EQ, and 10 disc changer. When I took it out and replaced it with an MP3 player, I found the sound problem I was fixing was caused by a loose connection to the EQ, It ran perfectly then, but I'd already purchased the MP3 deck and went ahead and replaced everything.

It's been in a box for two years. Could anyone use it? Make me an offer. It needs a new home.

I would be interested if the price and shipping were right.

For a good value deck, I would suggest JVC. You can get one with MP3 for cheap....
or Kenwood and Pioneer....but I think they are little more expensive...
but all of these are great...
I have a Pioneer myself.
