Default Tranny fluid for LSD

I plan on changing the tranny fluid in my car this weekend, but have some questions first. Redline 75W90 is recommended for the LSD equipped cars, correct? Also, the original window sticker says that my car came with LSD, but is there a way that I can check to see if someone switched it out sometime during its life; such as, if I were to jack up the rear end, would the wheels move in the same or opposite direction? Thanks in advance.

some info on transaxle fluid:

i believe if the car has an LSD, if you turn one wheel the other will turn in the same direction, if open diff it will move the opposite way.

oh, and make sure you can remove the transaxle fill plug before you take the drain plug out

You might also want to inspect your fill and drain plugs as they might be in bad shape after many years. My drain bolt was chewed up so I got replacements. I had to remove mine very gingerly.

I replaced the oil in my 83 LSD a couple of years ago. At that time, I called Redline and asked them which product to use. Their recommendation was MT90 for 83 944 LSD transaxles.

I put MT90 in, and I really like it. Shifting is musch easier when cold. And it may be my imagination, but it seems to me that the synchros grab sooner.

I just re-built the tranny in my car and installed a new 944 Torsen Phase II torque-bias LSD. I also used the Redline MT90 and am quite please with it.

Redline MT-90 here as well. Happy with it.

Isn't MT-90 a GL4 fluid? I know that MT90 is recommended for non-lsd cars, but I thought that a GL5 fluid (75W90) was required for the LSD. I guess that I'll either give Redline or Paragon a call and see what would they recommend.

As far as I understand this. Redline MT-90 has less friction modifiers than the 75W90 fluid. Less friction modifiers are better for LSD.
