*The car is in Metairie, Louisiana not California (actually not far from where I work) along with a 935, a RS etc.

Scott, is this the same place that has the Nascar and cigarette boat shop just off the causeway? I am 99.9% sure that it is. I was lovin the 935 a few times!

Jason - sorry, I could have sworn it was #3. Did you get it from Joest or did it not end up going there?

IMO the Holy Grail would be the 924 GTP which ran at LeMans (7th overall) in 1981....but I'll take this one

Jason - Congrats on the purchase! I remember that it was fs for a very reasonable price 6-12 months ago. I believe I even posted a link to the ad on this forum. I ran a couple of AutoX's and DE's with that car at the event. I wasn't sure where it ended up, but it sounds like it fell into the right hands...

Actually no. The place you are talking about is the former owner/starter behind Popeye's Fried Chicken. I run by him just about every day as he just moved to the northshore. The last I saw his stable of cars were:

Murcielago
Ferrari 360 cab.
Countach 25th anniv
New Vipor

I was told that his ex-wife drove a pink 911 cab with teal interior that was a one-off.

He was/is an avid boat racer and owns several ultra-powerful race boats and has won a few offshore championships. I was once traveling the Causeway (24 mile bridge) doing about 80 when one of his competition boats flew by me like I was standing still. He must have been well over 100 mph. I think he's sunk a few of them in the lake.

since it's a 968, shouldn't it have a 16 valve engine?

The 968 Turbo's had 8 valve engines.

Yep, that is the place I am talking about. There was a 935 in there for some time as well. Didnt look to be in the best shape but very cool nevertheless. I make it a point to stop by whenever I am in town.

My car was orignally purchased by Joest. Joest had done all the development work on the #1 car and had Porsche make some changes for the #4 car (more elaborate Matter cage, better cooling flow to the dual front oil coolers, brakes, radiator and intercooler). I have quite a bit of info on the cars including some of the original track setup sheets for the #1 car. Joest later sold the car to Roock Racing. It was then sold to a privateer who evidently raced it sporadically. It then sat on display at a VW dealer in Germany. The gentleman I bought the car from imported it into the U.S. in 1999.

Must be a fishing expedition at that price. Considering its inauspicious track record, it's hard to believe anyone will bite.

Nice though!
