I believe my tranny ist kaputt!
Well, for the past several months I have been having awful vibrations comming from the rear of my car. These vibrations were compounded on highway driving, and driving under load. Today, I noticed that the car seemend to bounce up and down from the rear upon acceleration. Several minutes later after this started, I herd a bang and felt a thud. The engine is fine, however whatever gear I am in, nothing happens, the car seems to be only in neutral. I checked the shifter assembly and it works fine. The spedo still correlats with the proper rev and gear so I believe it is my tranny that has died. What do you guys think?

Jeeezz, here we go again! These cars do not have universal joints... they have constant velocity (CV) joints. If you guys are going to drive these cars...LEARN something about them. Hell buy a Haynes manual and read the damn thing when you're sitting on the throne!! Anyway, probably tne ring and pinion gone kerplut. Have someone sit behind the wheel and you listen at the tranny as he puts it in gear. If you can select 1st and the car does not move, but makes noises like a blender full of ball bearings, its probably the R&P. Be CAREFUL while the car is running. It could catch a gear and suddenly move. Be ready to spend big $$$. Easiest solution is to buy a 951 tranny and swap. Much stronger unit. Gear ratios are a bit different.

Yes, I replaced the entire units, meaning they had new CV joints. With the engine on and in first gear, I hear scary sounds comming from the tranny. Kinda sounds like putting coins in a can, and shaking them.
So I guess the tranny is the culprit.

Ya somethin the same happened to me a couple weeks ago...it's in the shop now. My mechanic thinks its the joint on the front of the torque tube because my noise seems to be coming from the front instead of the rear? not too sure yet, i guess i'll just have to wait and see.

In the front of the torque tube there is no joint. The splines of the tube slide into the clutch itself, so maybe it's your clutch that's bad....or your mechanic Good luck!
