Default Success at Hershey

This was my fifth time returning to this annual event since moving to the PA region in 1999. With the weather forecasted to be a perfect sunny, 68 degree day, I was expecting to spent more time looking for parts. My kids wanted to come this year (8 yr old son & 7 yr old daughter), so my wife decided to join too. I promised them we would go through the Hershey visitors center where you can ride through the hershey factory, visit the gift shop, etc.
After 18 yrs of using my 86 944 as a daily commuter, my drivers seat has worn through the fabric and some of the vinyl. Walking down the rows of vendors/sellers; one of the last I came across had a drivers seat with the exact material as my 944 -- cloth insert was pinstripe flannel - anthracite.
My wife saw it before I did and shouted with excitement to me this guy had your seat. At this point I felt I lost all chances of getting a great deal as the owner witness how much I wanted this seat. After looking it over, I decided to walk around a bit, trying not to show great interest. I moved on to other areas and returned about 30 minutes later. I asked the guy for his best price on the seat. His response was $25. I was prepared to pay much more. The seat isn't perfect, but their are no major rips or tears. So today I'll clean it up and swap it with my original.
Other than buying the seat, I bought a new rear hatch strut for $23. Not much of a bargain.
Also, spent much time looking at the 944/968s people brought. I was amazed at the low mileage on some of these cars. I think of replacing my 944 someday with a low mileage 968 coupe (under 100,000); as the cost of rebuilding my engine and repainting would get competitive to buying a 8 yr newer model.
Anybody out there find some good bargains for their car????

See my post about what I bought at Hershey. All in all I spent $1220 for everything. Not too bad if you actually consider what good used prices are for what I bought. I had a blast as always.

"I wish it was closer, sounds like a great event!"

People do travel to swap from great distances. I spoke with a couple from Columbia, MO for example.

And don't forget lots of money and patience. You really need to spend at least 4 hours (8-12 is good) if you want to dig through everything there. It's overwhelming but worth it. I picked up a brand new oil pressure relief valve for $25 that I found in the bottom of a box of parts. The guy didn't even know he had it. Score!
