Default No start problem

One of my 84's started acting up last night, and now it won't start at all. My nephew was driving when it started messing up, I will describe the best that I can.
It started cutting out when ever he let off of the gas. He could at frist, start it back up. Just as long as he gave it gas, it would run. Then it got to the point , to start it back after cutting out, you had to push the gas about a third of the way down. Going down the road, he said you could feel it missing, but if he pushed the accelartor down, it would pull fine with no miss.
I started it this morning, and the only way that I could was to push the gas pedal all the way down. The only way I could keep it running, was to keep pumpin the pedal.
I pulled out the first 2 plugs. The plugs only have a couple of hundred on them, but the 1 plug was completely black, the 2 plug was black with gas on it.
Thinking weak spark, I took the cap off to look at the rotor and contacts. They were somewhat corrored. I took a light file and cleaned them up. No start. Thinking the coil might have gone bad, I checked the primary and secondary. The secondary checked fine, but the primary showed open( had to pull the little plug out, lead on meter might not had made contact). I changed out the coil, no start.
Had wife stand at back of car to see if she could hear pump running while cranking (even though gas was on plug, just wanted to make sure). Sounded fine. Checked to make sure that both crank sensors were plugged in, good.
Still no start.
Where would you check next. I bought a new set of plugs, going to install them in the morning.

Did you notice any smoke or a unburned gasoline smell? You should check the fuel pressure. If the FPR fails closed the pressure in the fuel rail goes high and the engine floods. Usually the pump runs all continuously so that you here a whine from the back, right side.

Are you sure you're getting a spark? The electrical part of my ignition switch failed once. No spark from that.

BTW, I'm looking for a early voltmeter, yellow on black, got one of those?

Had one, sent it out a couple of weeks ago. I'll keep my eyes open. Thanks for the heads up on the FPR. That might be it, due to the fact that of the 2 plugs that I took out, only one was wet and the other was dry. Also, it running good in accelerate mode, sounds like the regulator.

PM me if you find a voltmeter. I'll probably post a request sometime soon, but I'm in no hurry. Clock's dead, radio has a clock, and I like voltmeters.

BTW, if you're going to replace the FPR, might as well re-seal those injectors while you're there. I had to use an impact wrench to get the nut off the FPR mount.

Good Luck.

I just happen to have 4 seal kits already. I figured that while I was at it, I would go ahead and soak the rail, change the fuel filter and do the seals and hats.

Since the #1 & 2 plugs were black, I assume from excessive fuel, you could have shorted wiring in your #1 & 2 injector wiring (they're wired in pairs). A short on the injector wiring would have them be open all the time. Thus the better running with the throttle open providing more air to match the excessive fuel.

Can the regulator be cleaned??? Thinking about taking both off and trying to clean them.
