Hey guys...a couple of buddies and I are going up to the drag strip tonight (I know lots of people are against dragging these cars, but I've done it a couple of times with no ill effects, and it is a fun, cheap way to spend a friday evening), and my tank is empty, so I was going to go to the sunoco and fill up with their 97 octane with the hopes of being able to safely crank my boost up a bit.
Here's the run down on my whip: APE stage II chips (from '95 I believe), manual boost controller,3 bar FPR, and lots of non-horsepower mods like MSD 6AL/Blaster, 3" cat back exh., fresh rebuild on the head with mild porting, guru metal HG, etc.
Right now I run around 14 psi, but wanted to crank it up a bit for a few 1/4 mile runs. With the chips and 3 bars of fuel running on the stock turbo, how much boost would be safe on 97 octane? Thanks.

You're confusing the benefits of higher octane with air/fuel ratio. You can't increase boost without increased fuel delivery, and if you're on stock injectors, you're already pretty near maxed out - the higher octane fuel will prevent detonation, but won't allow you to run more boost as air/fuel ratio is still going to be lean if you increase boost.

If those APE chips are tuned for 15 psi then you probably shouldn't go past that, also those APE chips are well known for leaning out up top, if you want more boost you should upgrade to the new Guru 18 psi chips which are alot safer than the old APE chips.
95 is along time ago, Danno's fuel maps are spot on now and will give you much more power than those old APE chips, they don't even compare.

I would say at least 85lbs....if you have stickers on your ride....like AEM or COLD AIR INTAKE....you could run 95lbs.....
hahahaha....just messing around
For just a couple quarter runs...I wouldn't go much past 16 or 17lbs if I were you....

Thanks to most of you guys. I figured with a 3 bar fuel pressure regulator I could run a couple psi over 15 (which the chips are burned for with the stock FPR), and do it safely if I'm running on 97 octane. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this particular set up. When I get money for it, I am going to go with DFI and a bigger turbo, but for now I will deal with what I have.
Mike...I think we're going up around 7 tonight. Look for my car, a 2000 hyundai accent (really), and a rat of a '92 integra with a type R swap...that's my group.

but if you run into trouble, feel free to call my cell. I have a trailer, truck, and winch at the house

You should be ok with the added fuel pressure. 2 pounds of boost won't hurt anything.
But you may want to consider increasing the fuel delivery soon if this is gonna become a habit! I had good luck with my Malpassi RR-FPR, food for thought.

I don't see how 16 psi would be dangerous with those mods. I wouldn't go anymore though if I were you
Have fun at the track Ribs. ![thumbsup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigok.gif)

No drags tonight...its pouring! Maybe I'll do it next friday. Unfortunately the only Sunoco I know of in my area only has 94 octane, so I cranked the boost up to 15 psi (which should be fine on 93 octane too) in hopes of running my car tonight, but alas, the rain has intervened. Last time I ran my car at the strip, which was about 2 years ago, my best time was a 14 flat @ 102.2 MPH, but that was at 12 psi with a gunked up motor (I rebuilt the head last summer, and there was a lot of black crap that was machined out of it), so I am hoping to run in the 13's now that my motor is fresh and I am running more boost.
In other news, I got a set of 200# springs to put on my coilovers (I have 400# springs now, but my matching set of 30mm torsion bars disappeared before I had a chance to install them, so I am trying to balance my car out so it doesn't understeer as badly) - Mike Buck...I think I am going to put these on on Sunday, and any help would be appreciated. Scootin' - I've seen that video, and one guy on here...ahmet...has blown like 4 or 5 axles on his n/a and turbo...I know the fragility of these cars, and I usually take it easy on launch (and get not so good 60 foots as a result), but one of my axles is clicking anyway, so if I blow it out, so be it. Sean...when I get the cash, I am going to do a DFI, injectors, turbo, wastegate, etc., so as long as the car is in tune, it should be safe to run. Andy...after blowing a HG (not because of abnormal boost, just the gasket was deteriorating and finally let go) I know what a PITA it is to mend a blown motor, so I am fairly careful with what kind of boost I run.
Time to start my weekend. Peace.
