Default Centerforce Dual Friction clutch...any experience with it???

Just curious...

I found this unit for about HALF the price of the OEM unit, and the DF clucthes are designed for a 90% power increase over stock! This puppy should be able to handle a few track days I think!

Has anyone tried them? What did you think? Let us know!

Yeah, have one, its a great clutch. Very grippy. Alot more difficult to push the clutch in, but its worth it

That's all I needed.

Time to abuse the new AmEx card.

Thanks much!

I've heard not to use them as they dont last.

No problems with the friction material IIRC; they just fail for other reasons.

Well, I dunno...I've heard the same about the stock units...but at least these claim to be designed for very high HP applications. I could only assume that means more durability.

At any rate, I can't go wrong with the price!

I'll give it a shot. I'd rather try this than re-installing my 115k-mile OEM unit <gasp!>

I've not heard any issues with them, I know a lot of people who run and abuse them on imports and Vettes.

Centerforce 944 clutch = unmodified Sach's 951 clutch with their counterweights added to the splines (spring?) of the clutch. I wish I would have taken pics of mine before the install. 25,000 miles later, going strong. Only problem is, my clutch fork hits the counterweights if I push it to the floor. Per Centerforce, it's an install error they've seen before. What I know now about the sop that installed it, very possible.
After the install on mine, I was able to chirp the tires in 3rd gear. Clutch feel was no different than my stock clutch.

Where did you find the excellent deal?

Bottom line is, you can buy this clutch, remove the counterweights and you'll have a stock 951 clutch that is painted orange.

EDIT - see the silver things in middle? These are the counterweights:

EDIT AGAIN - I installed mine back in 1997 - at the time it was not a "duel friction" model as their site only shows that model fitting the 944. Maybe they changed or maybe my memory is very fuzze. I do remember it showing up in a Sach's box. Oh well, whatever I have works fine.

My engine's out of the car, how easy is it not get the cluth out without lifting the car? Sorry for the dumb question, I have not worked on 944's much. I didn't take the engine out myself.

if your engine is out of the car your clutch is bolted to the back of the engine, on the flywheel.

That's what I thought, but didn't want to sund too stupid about 944's. Too late.
Guess I need to find out where my clutch is then. The block has been stripped. It's really hard to keep track of parts and pices over a 3 year time span.

Thanks guys.

The CFII is a different model than the DF. The DF is one of their Hi Po models. I'll tell you where I found this deal after I order it to make sure it's not a typo or a mistake!

I'm in the same boat...my motor is out for a rebuild and it would be silly not to change the clutch now! I'll have pics in the next few weeks, and I'll leave a post regarding the clutch after it gets here. Thanks again!

I dont know about the NA but the cheapest I found the assembly from anywhere for the 951 was in the 850.00 range. Edit I have seen prices from 875 to 1514.00 for the same clutch kit.

For the NA I thought I saw them for 350ish. In an ideal world I would use a KEP PP, 930S disk, stock throw-out. However, that setup is pretty steep. The PP alone is over 1K. Edit Price is now $600.00 from Paragon for the KEP PP. Thanks Sam Lin for the update.

It is really scary how much a clutch for these cars can cost condsidering it is a basic setup, no dual mass flywheel, or anything else that makes it special.

Wow, I bought my centerforce Sach's unit from I think Patrick Racing for around $450 back in 1997. The name of the place my be a bit off, but I know they are in Arizone if that helps.

Matt H, not sure where you got your pricing, but the 951 KEP PP is $600.
