Default Ball-Joint Blues

Just got them apart to survey the damage...

The top bushing was non-existent in both sides. Passenger's ball pin bent pretty good... And both A-arm rims are cracked. The sides of the sockets are warn about two millimeters where the ball wore the aluminum away. The rims of the A-arms are pretty deformed as well. I was going to just get a rebuild kit... But now don't know if I need new (used in good shape) A-arms now too.

You very definitely need new arms.

You could try to pickup a used pair from someone on the list or off of a parts car. Keep looking before you spend money on a brand new set ($$$).

Man I thought mine were bad until I saw your pictures. Mine would work if I would have a shop and time to work on them I could put 19mm ball joints in but the 17mm won't work cause the pocket has wear from the ball joints. I'm putting in the steal control arms today for now until I can afford better ones. Man you are lucky that they didn't just fall out while you were driving.

I'd pick up a good used set and rebuild them, you should be able to get away pretty cheap. When I rebuilt mine with the SSI kits, I found the right one had the dreaded "febi" kit pressed into it and it was not rebuildable. I found a fellow Rennlister that had a rebuildable arm for $50. You might want to put up a "wanted" ad in the classifieds, and/or give a few dismantlers like OK Foreign a call................

That does look bad. Stock worn out suspension I bet, coupled with original worn out joints, equals whacked out a-arm............

The question is why did they get that way. It looks like a lowering/binding issue.
BTW, we are just coming out with a kit to fix that. It fixes the lowered binding issue and rebuilds the joints at the same time.
The kits are finished and ready to sell but I am not going to release them until after the weekend. I am going to be up in Hershey and I wouldn't be available to field all the questions, so you can expect them on Tuesday with full details.
