Hello all, can I get a little info on valve cover gasket replacement? Are there any special tools needed. Are the hex head bolts on the lower side the only ones. Should I use any special gasket sealant, I don't know yet what the gasket is made out of as it has not arrived from Vertex yet. Is that another small gasket on the windshield end of the valve cover. Thanks Red

The valve cover on a 944 isn't really a cover at all, it is the camshaft housing. You have to remove the timing belt to remove the housing, so you'll need all the tools and time it takes to do the belt job.
The cam housing gasket is made of paper, and I've never used any additional sealant on it. There is another gasket for the plate at the rear of the cam housing, but I don't remember what kind of gasket it was, for all I remember it may have even been an O ring or something.

You need to remove the hex head caps on the cam cover as well, and inside each one, will be another 6mm allen bolt like on the outside. No special tools beside a belt tensioner, because you have to pull the timing and balance shaft belts to get the cam cover off. Oh a flywheel lock would be needed as well.

a 6mm long allen key in the 3/8 socket adapter form works wonders for the bolts inside the cam cover....make sure you wake them up with a punch first.
