Smile South Florida Wrenching Society..or...Clutch replacement completed

Well after the first day of the clutch replacement project, we wonder what all the hub-bub was about on changing a clutch. The project is going great, everything came apart text book perfect, no broken bolts, no stripped out cheese head bolts, nothing. The old clutch disk is really torn up, don't have digi camera so no pics, but the flywheel and pressure plate is in great shape. Got the new throw out bering and pilot bering so ready to go back together tomorrow. Only aditional problem we found was the clutch fork berings and piviot arm were shot, got some new ones from Ian's place so thats good to go.
Met Brian "Washington 951" for the first time today, great guy and we had a good time tearing things down. Couldn't have done it without his help.
Will post follow up tomorrow after the days wrenching.
Hey, I forgot how much fun playing with cars can be. It's been many years since I was under a car pulling parts off, but like riding a bike, it all comes back.

Till later all,
Bill

944-S-Type, You having clutch problems? I didn't find it that big of a deal to get to. Being Aircraft savy has it's advantage, me doing panel diving doing avionics, I thought there was Waaaay too much room under the car while disasembling things. Let us know whats up, maby something can be worked out. And and "Oh By The Way" note, when I pulled the speed and refrence sensors, the ends looked like an "etch-a-sketch" game. Covered with metal particles, Hmmmm maby thats why it would be hard starting from time to time.........We'll see when it all goes back together.

I wish we had something like this in Chicagoland...but most of the
Porsche people I've met have been snobs and hardly recognise the 944
as a Porsche...let alone my 924S

So, did you have any problems removing the bellhousing, engine sensors, etc? I bet I spen two hours getting my bellhousing cover off, then, finally, I got it just right and it almost fell off. And I had to separate the AC hard lines to get at the speed sensor. Ans the HCV was a real pain.

bellhousing was a bit tough, but once the heater valve and associated hose was pulled aside, (by me, from the top) the housing came right off. bill did the speed/ref sensors before i got there, but didn't express any problems.

maybe we could just become the KCWS: southern chapter??
