Exclamation Need Help Stranded!!

It's pouring ice cold rain, and I'm having trouble with my '87 924S.

I just walked a mile back to work, I was on my way to see Joe
Satriani for a CD Signing thing after work.

I'm stuck.

The issue is the car starts, and idles fine. But when I press on the gas
the engine revs from 1000 to 2000 and then cuts back to idle.

Any help or suggestions would greatly apprecaited as it's my only car,
and I am honestly stuck.

Check for loose vacuum lines..is the cable tight to the throttle on the intake??

That all looks fine. I tugged and pressed every line in an attempted to
get it to work or not work. I can pull the throttle cable and get the
exact same response.

Would water up the air intake in the fender do it? I didn't hit any puddles
that I know of, and I made it about a mile from work before it flaked.

My guess is either a bad vaccum line or an eletrical short (you said it was raining) on some sensor needed for the engine to run correctly (AFM?)

Water in the intake will make the engine run rough/stall/die and possibly not start again....so doubt that's your problem.

Distributor get wet? Do 944s even have distributor caps (Im dumb).

My old Samauri used to crap out in the rain every time due to a bad distributor cap.

No, I'm honestly not 100% sure where the DME is. Is that the box right
under the steering wheel by the fuse box?

Distributer is at the top front of the engine, and bone dry.
That was the first thing I checked before I gave all the wires and
hoses a push pull.

I'm thinking it's water related. Maybe my new phat tires kick up water in
a way the older 6" wheels didn't?

Nope, that's the cruise control brain....that wouldn't cause you any problems with the engine.

Edit: BTW...the DME is under the passenger's feat (under the carpet in the back under the glove box.

Girlfriend is driving up here to pick me sorry *** up. We are going over
to check out the car and see if she may have dried off a bit.

Any last suggestions or things I should look at?

Must be a typo. That's the DME.

I'd suspect the rain caused short in your wires or cap or somewhere. Dry them off with WD 40 and replace them asap. If they are new, I dunno.

Other than what everyone else has suggested i cant think of anything else. I would tend to think maybe its water related, but if not maybe its the fuel pump giving up...Just an idea!

Good Luck buddy! Hope someone else has some ideas!

Ok, I'm home.

I went down to the car, started her up, and she revved past 2k just
like normal...well, maybe a hint of studder (as I've said before, I'm hyper
sensitive to my cars--even if you guys don't believe me).

I got about 3 miles further down the road, just about to jump on the
on-ramp, and it started choaking again.

I pulled over in a business parking lot, looked her all over again. I can't
see a damn thing wrong. I opened up the airbox to see if water had gotten
up in there, and it was bone dry (a new filter couldn't hurt though).

Let the car sit for about 30 minutes, then started her up again. Idle was
a hair high. Generally she idles at about 900RPM, but she was up at 1150
or so. Revved her up a bit with a hint of studder, took her around the
parking lot, then SHOT her around the parking lot without any problems.

Jumped up on the highway, again, a hint of studder here and there and
she wasn't as smooth to accelerate as usual. I mean my 924S doesn't
bury you in the seat with acceleration, but it's smooth and even over the
power band generally.

By the time I got home she was feeling fine. No studder, no hesitation,
regular acceleration. I shot her around the block without holding her
back any and she felt fine.

So, do we still think vaccume or electrical?

Any specific things I should be looking at, and checking out?

As always, all your help is greatly apprecaited!!
