How about the idle adjustment screw? Is it still there?

I'm sorry you missed Satriani, he's awesome!

Vacuum leaks dont usually just go away, so that is less of a possibility.

It's very, very, very consistant as to when the throttle cuts back. It's
exactly 1900k on the Tac no matter how soft, hard, fast, or slow I hit
the gas. It feels like as soon as I hit 1900k the fuel is cut till it levels off
at 1000 or idle.

Sounds VERY electrical to me, but I'm not sure where to look.

Do those have TPS' (Throttle position sensors) like the 944s?
If so, that could be it..

Yeah, it sounds like the idle contact in the TPS is shorting out, making the DME think you've taken your foot off the gas and cutting off the fuel if the RPM is above 1900. Next time it happens, try pulling the TPS connector off and if the problem goes away you've found the problem.

I would take a can of carb cleaner back with you, and spray a little bit on each connection of the vacuum lines and under the intake, and see if that changes your idle. Sure sounds like a vacuum leak.

wait wait, you can just disc your tps and your car will still run and you can still give it throttle? why doesnt that make sense to me.

The TPS on our 944's is actually just two switches, one detects idle and the other WOT (Wide Open Throttle). The DME uses these signals to select different fuel maps from its memory for the operating conditions indicated by the switch. Disconnecting the switch will simply cause the DME to use the mid-thottle fuel map at all times.

Ok, now it sounds like we are getting somewhere. I'll pick up some
carb cleaner and keep it in the car for the trip to and from work.

Please point the TPS out to me, where is it located? Any photos I can
look at?

I would also add a couple cans of dry gas - it sounds like you may have some water in the fuel tank. If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in a long time, that wouldn't hurt either.

The TPS is located under the throttle assembly. You may need a small jewlers screw driver or pick to release the metal clip that holds the connector on. Be careful not to lose the rubber gasket inside the connector.

Thanks again all for all the tips. helzerr, I think I know what you're
talking about, and I use those precision screwdrivers (and hemostats)
and such for work. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Wish me luck! It's going to be at least two weeks before I can afford to
take her into a shop!

I would have just walked to see Satriani, then again I had The Extremist on in the car today
My first guess was a tear in the j-boot (or popped off) but those don't get better.
Go out and start it up, bring the spray bottle of water that your GF uses on her hair or to spray the houseplants. Leave the lights off. Open the hood and start spraying, once there's a good mist in the air around the motor, check the plug wires for stray sparks. Also check for carbon tracking in the cap. High humidity makes these problem obvious quickly, did you say something about rain?

BEFORE she goes in the shop- the plug on my TPS has been working loose (The retainer spring clip is gone ) and my idle will jump to 1900 and run funny when warm when the plug is off. Worth a check..

BTW.. the DME is under the steering column on the 924S's BTW- same as old interior 944's. It's silver in mine.

Hateful to miss Sach BTW. Grrr.
