Default drilling hole in the a/c catch basin to vac it out? 89magic98?

hi all,
i'm thinking about using a hole saw to drill a 1" hole in the passenger side a/c catch basin in order to vac it out and see just WHAT keeps blocking the drain. i can't think of an easy way to get in there...

any thoughts on this or what i could then use as a plug to seal the hole again?? some sort of standard rubber plug from a home depot or something?? i'd like to avoid duct tape for obvious reasons!

i see in the archives that 89magic98 drilled a small hole down there to spray some antiseptic in there...how'd that go?

thanks!

read my post in this thread, it will eliminate your problem. If you want to use an antiseptic spray, attach a tube to the nozzle and spray it up into the airbox from the outlet. Gunk, mold and mildew form a "flap" that is impossible to remove by attacking it from the underside of the car (due to the curving of the drainage tube) it just temporarily moves it aside. The guitar string provides something flexible, but sufficiently rigid to ream out the gunk blocking the outlet.

i've gotten my fingers on that hose, i was just a little scared to give it a yank.

So, what's the matter with duct tape?

Yes, just have a towel ready, couldn't be any worse than the deluge that's running around back there anyway
This will be a long term fix, as you are removing the built up gunk that is restricting the outlet. I had water running in huge amounts when I made left hand turns until I did this. I've never had a problem since.

silly boy - duct tape is only for ENGINE or DRIVELINE repair!!!

guys - thanks for the tips. i've been battling this for a while but never could get a handle on a permanent fix short of removing the whole console, etc. i'll pull the hose, poke around with a guitar string and then blast some compressed air down the tube too - thanks.
