Default Fuel tank Sender???

Ok im on a quest to find a alternative instead the dreaded 400$ sender. I have for one at fuel safe but still looking. I screwed up and did not measure the depth from the tank flange to the floor of the tank. I have since dropped the tank off for cleaning and asked the gal at the Rad. shop to do a quick measure and she hit 11 inch to the bottom sound rt?? I know theres someone out there that has a tank out. Im running out to the shop to hopefully find whats left of my sender and measure it. Any input is good.

Edit I found the cyl. which hits 8 & 3/8s call the whole thing 8.5 that 215 mm you could get away with 220 I would think.

Roger @ 928srus.com sells the 944 sender for under $200. I bought one for my 928. Works fine. Roger stated it is the 944 sender he blocks a return tube to work in the 928.

FWIW.

If you have a late car, FCP Euro has it for 225, genuine Porsche, and lifetime replacement warranty. Hard to beat that!

(Am I allowed to post links to companies? I never know...)

I have a 84 with steel tank. So thats the kicker. I have gathered quite a bit of info but I need to compile it into a easy to read format and not a book. Hang in the with me.

Funny, I bought a new one from FCP Euro last year, for an 84 with a steel tank, and the total came to $125 including shipping.

And, it even has a LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!

I've bought two of these for early cars as well and paid very close to that. Who wanted $400 for one???

You know I dont remember exactly where I saw it but back in the memory banks I seem to see that # somewhere. Like I said I have done some leg work for alternatives. That being said I did not find one that had the fuel light lead but as I mentioned to Farah earlier today if I can get away with something reasonably accurate with out the light and have money for a short shift kit then thats my logic. I did find a couple of options and a few ideas. I just need to write it up. Mean while Im putting a BBQ pit together it was easier to get the trans axle out.

FCP Euro has the gasket in stock but does not list a sender for 84 944 unless I pushed a wrong button. I stand to be corrected https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...por-477919051b

Tiger this is the whole idea of my search. I planned on calling VDO and see what they say I also have tech ? I have been side tracked with other things but simply put theres a few options out there that will work but length will be a factor and the low fuel light would probably be non functional. I spoke with farah7 who has a older one that he is going to send me so lets see what happens there. I can afford to by one of those new factory units but it would me feeling angry. Less expensive alternate solution would allow me to spend money somewhere else like a short shift.. Ill try to write up what I find out.

Outstanding buddy much appreciated. I had another member PM me about a short shifter he had that is not using so we will strike a deal. This is great forum. For those following I spoke with Patrick and also mentioned I have a 68 Mustang Coupe that I have in the shop with full Pro Touring Suspension underneath thats in the works. Whether you are a Mustang lover or not the Vintage Mustang Forum is a cool place and a host of good people there also. Hop over and see a few things.
