Default What brakes are these?

I have a 1988 Turbo S and I was wondering what brakes these were because there is an adapter on the caliper?

Those look like calipers from a turbo S but the spindles are not from a turbo S.

Sorry, Peter, looks like you don't have a turbo S, but just a 1988 turbo. Maybe someone tried to make it look like a turbo S, but it is not.

Check the engine serial number and type... does it show m44/51 or m44/52?

Check the trans serial... is it an AOR transaxle?

x2..... They had regular Turbos and Turbo S that year. Seeing a brake adapter would point to it being a standard Turbo with Turbo S brakes added.

Hey Pete, welcome to Rennlist. It looks like somebody sold you a pretty wild project. (Look for threads he started on seats and 3.0 engine)
Lets see some pics of the whole package, this group will set you straight.
I'm guessing these adapters are the first of many surprises ahead.

The name in the casting says they are Brembo calipers. Look in the Brembo catalog and see if they made a caliper and adapter for the 944.

The calipers are likely Brembos from a 928 S4, the adapters are aftermarket to convert the late 951 (non-S) spindles. It’s a common upgrade to a 944 Turbo. Would love to see other parts of this car.

All of the Porsche calipers were made by brembo they are factory calipers from a 944 turbo-s OR a 928 .. adapters are made by many aftermarket companies.. just look on Lindsey's site..
it would be interesting to know if this car has the 10 speaker sound system.. or the adjustable konis.. option tag is the tell-all could be a turbo-s that someone robbed the spindles off of? Hmmm? But chances are its just a normal turbo..

Besides the brakes, are there any other differences between the turbo s and non turbo spindles? I checked the VIN of the car. It is a Turbo S Vin. I think the previous owner parted out the suspension that was on the car because a previous for sale listing states some suspension that is no longer on the car. They obviously also sold the spindles as well and added those adapters to keep the brakes. thanks for helping!

The hubs are also different on the Turbo S, moving the location of the rotor a bit more to the outside for more clearance to the tie rod end with the thicker rotors. I do see you have Turbo S brake lines though since you have the hard line between the caliper and strut.

Edit: if you are in no rush and you'd eventually like a set of adjustable Turbo S struts, springs, etc. I will be removing a set from my '89 Turbo sometime next year when I get around to installing the new MCS suspension.

The struts are also black, all my M030 cars have had yellow Konis.

Turbo S calipers on regular spindles. Also called F40 calipers, middle reds etc.

Another great job on the ID by the 944 community.
In another related thread, our new friend Pete asked the early 911 community (to no response) to help ID these alleged Porsche seats.

Do the 944 brethren have any guesses?
