Default pass side motor mount removal

can someone explain how anyone is expected to be able to get to the 2 bolts that are on top of the motor mount on the pass side. those 2 bolts are the only things holding me from getting my cross member off.the drivers side one was easy because there are no headers in the way. the one on the pass side is a new style one so theres no nut on the the other end of the bolt so all i would need to do is loosen it form the top. Im contemplating removing my headers just to get to them....

Brett,
I'm wrapping up doing a rod bearing change and just finished putting my crossover back on last night. I was at the same place you were, and decided to not actually take the mount off. If you remove the nut on the bottom, you can lift the drivers side of the crossover and push it towards the passenger side enough to slip the motor mount out of the groove in the crossover. From there a good bit of wiggling and you should be able to take it off.

Putting it back on was a bit harder I though, but with two people it wasn't too bad. I basicaly did the same thing in reverse, with lots of wiggling to get the mount back into the crossover's groove. I hope this helps and good luck to you!

oops, I just reread your post and saw it's the new style and doesn't have a nut on the bottom. I guess my suggestion might not work then, sorry.

hmmmmmmmmm..... i had htought about trying that but i figure if i could just wiggle it out then it wouldnt really be doing the job its meant to do. but if you say it can be done ill give it a try. the mount is already bad i minaswell just cut the freakin thing out somehow.

no it doesnt have a nut on the bottom. so it SHOULD be easier. but its not. Im thinking or removing my headers.... if the bolt on the rear side of the mount is this hard to remove i cant even imagine how hard the other side will be.

The front side bolt is easier to take out actually. When I started to take out the mount, I could get at from under the middle of the car reaching out. There wasn't much room to turn a wrench in there, but the head is easier to get at then the rear side of the mount.

I'm in the minority, I think the passenger side is easier then the driver side. Get the sway bar off and get the control arm out of the way and then use a 1/4 stubby or short 13mm to get the bolts out. I get the front bolt going under from the front going in feet first and the rear bolt by going under the car head first from the wheel well.
I scared my kids away after multiple cursing outburst while doing this job.

Yep, I think that night we taught Dan the importance of 1/4 inch tools, they work wonders in those little spaces.

Amen Matt

I've gone out and picked up a set of regular and deep set sockets for my quarter inch drive. Matt saved me on that job. Those stubby little quarter inch drives work where others only dream of going.

Forgive me if I am missing something, but if you are removing the crossmember, why fiddle with the two small bolts. Can't you just remove the nut from the bottom of the mount? There are three mounting points on each mount.

no because theres a part of the cross member that hangs over the otp of the motor mount.
