If i was to be selling on ebay, and here. How much money does an early model, to be specific, 83, 944 bring in? I'm looking at possibly getting one to part out, running without a title. Anyone parted one of these out? I'm looking at spending about 1300 on the car. How hard do you think it would be to get back to even at least with it?

Devon: I have been wondering the same thing! Every time i see a cheap beaten 944/951 i wonder how much the car is worth just in parts. I'm curious to see peoples responses to this...

I dunno, but last year, I ran across an '83 with FUCHS, didn't run, but I took the bad advice from an exmechanic of mine, and PASSED!
For $500...WHAT WAS I THINKING!? Oh, I didn't know better, but it SUCKS!

it largely depends on condition/options. if you can sell misc interior pieces that are in good shape you have the potential to make much more than the 1300 back. i find people really dont want/need early suspensions, as they'd rather get upgraded stuff. as far as options - if it has fuchs, BIG HUGE PLUS, also LSD is a major one! these can add greatly to the revenue brought in by the car. that said i've been pretty successful with early cars, and even early cars with automatics. the ones i've purchased had usable interior parts, and i managed to sell most of those. i still have a huge stockpile of parts lying around. one day i'll get around to building some koni conversions for my car, and/or throwing away everything that i haven't sold or won't use.
if anyone needs anything... just ask, i might have it i certainly have two manual sunroofs at the house. i have no more interior except for sunroof interior panels and seats(non-sport) and misc. suspension parts. i do have an '83 short block sitting around that is in decent shape (asking $200). you said the engine is running, and if you were to sell it you could definitely make back what you want, but even if you didn't you could still possibly get your engine for free.

I have parted out 5 cars. If you can find one for around 500.00, you might be a lot better off. If you buy one for above 1000.00 and keep the motor, you probley won't recover your investment. One for 500.00 with fuchs, is a great deal. It really depends on the condition of the car also. I bought a 83 true euro car. The body was trash, but the bumpers were good and I could tell that the motor had a new head. I didn't even start the car. Took a chance on the motor being good, and plus I knew that I could get a lot for the euro pistons, even if the motor had lost the belt. Turned out the motor was great. Made good money.

I think that $1300 for a running 83 is a bit high unless it's in decent shape in which case why would you part it? If you find someone with a 924 that early suspension would be worth something to them since most people like to do the 5 bolt coversion which requires pre 85/2 suspension. For $1300 if you try and part out the car and keep the engine you might be able to break even or come up with a really cheap motor.
While we're on this topic let me piggy back on this thread. I'm about to buy an '89 S2 for $1k and part it since it was in a pretty bad front end accident. Does anyone have a guess to how much a running S2 motor is worth? I'm going to try and find paperwork on it, who knows it might have just had front end maintence and been meticulously cared for. Anyone interested in the S2 motor?

Ok heres another question..
If i wwere to buy this 83 for 1000-1200, without a title, but runs and is in ok shape. If i (if its possible?) got a new title made for it, Do you think On ebay, or through the list, or on local car sales bulletins, i could sell it for more?

yieldsign2 if the car looks ok and runs ok and has decent records I'd say you'd definately be able to get $2K+ out of it easily.
Tom R. I have no idea what the history of the car is or how long it's been wrecked but it's a white S2 with like a dark blue interior. If that sounds like yours I can get you the VIN # and we can check into it more.

We have to get ahold of the D.M.V. and request a vehicle inspection/re-title. They come out and inspect the vehicle, copy down the VIN number and run it through the computer. This usually takes a couple of weeks. If an owner is found, the DMV will notify you to have you attempt to confiscate a title on your own. If you fail, you then have to go through a 3 ring circus, which will eventually wind down to them coming out, stripping the VIN numbers off of the car, making new VIN plates, and issuing a new title, all of course at your expense. I think they charge around $200-350 for the service here in KS.

I just bought an '84 with about 100,00 miles, with fuchs, and a turbo front end for $500. So there are cars out there that you can get for cheap, I jsut got lucky that the owner knew nothing about it. And get this the paint is in great condition, and it turns over, just doesn't run because of a fuel pump.

I bought an 83 parts car 3 years ago for $800. I really only needed the transmission and many used (manuals) I looked at cost around $600. So it wasn't a bad deal. The engine appears O.K. (incipient oil cooler milk shake). The car was abandoned at my local repair shop (owner didn't turn up to pay for repairs - a year went by) and they wanted to get rid of it.
