Default Parking Brake not sticking

Hi all, Currently I am using a hammer in front of the tire or leaving it in gear as a way to stop my early 944 from running away. This being said, I would like to figure out what is wrong with the parking brake. It feels kind of loose (moves side to side a little) when I pull it up. On the way up, I can barely feel the "clicks" and of course, It doesn't stay at the top. On the way down, without pressing the button, I can again feel some sort of resistance like where a click should be. Does anyone know what has gone bad? Any assembly schematics?

Thanks for your help

I don't really know how to diagnose this definitively without pulling the rear rotors.

You can take a look at whatever you have available for adjustment on the handle but it sounds to me like there is not enough tension in the system to get things clicking.

One you pull the rear rotors off the car, it will be obvious what the problem is.

Although, before you go that far, it's probably advisable to do a visual check of the parking brake cable. They can get pretty rusty and break, which would again lead to a lack of tension and clicking.

Cheers

Perhaps the cable just needs adjustment on the handle...but if that doesn't do it, time for a visual on the cable and time to pull the rear rotors to see what's going on when you pull the handbrake. Could be some of the small pins in the cable linkage have come adrift and fallen out.

No rust on the car at all. I was gonna pull the rotors of anyway, but just wanted to know if there was an adjustment for the handle. I am curious to see what I'll find when I take the rotors off.

Thanks for your input

On my car the parking brake adjuster is right behind the handle, hidden under some flaps of carpet. If you lift up the carpet a little bit you should be able to see the adjuster.

Cheers

The click action takes place within the handle. There is a pawl that is released by the button at the end of the handle and returns to engagement by spring pressure. The mechanism can get sticky and the pawl will not return. The whole assembly unbolts from the rocker with a couple 8mm (13mm wrench) bolts between seat and rocker.

I am resurrecting this thread because I have finally got to disassembling the handle. The cable and everything is fine but I think that I have found the source of the issue. The little tooth that connects to the handle and moves when you click the button is a little mangled (Picture attached). I want to order a new one of these but I have no clue what it is called and I can't find it in the PET. If any of you know, it will be very appreciated.

I wonder if you could weld a dab of metal on the end and file it to the original shape?
