Default Show Me Your Door Cards (Looking for Speaker Upgrade Suggestions)

Getting ready to pull my door cards to have reupholstered. I have the 10 speaker option with the 2 speakers under the door pull/armrest and the tweeter in the upper corner. The lower speakers are an odd size and do not seem to be available any longer. So, I'm looking to: 1) find the correct, or close, size speakers in an upgraded design, 2) put something else in the same location with superior sound or 3) modify the existing cards for a nice speaker upgrade that doesn't look like amateur hour.

What do you have and do you mind showing off with a pic or ten?

TIA!

944-645-419-00 Mid range shows still available for about $40.

944-645-429-00 Woofer shows NLA but there seem to be “refurbished” options when I search the part number.

944-645-425-00 (rear speaker) shows available but pricey at $108.

944-645-427-00 tweeter shows available at $18.

a friend of mine was recently trying to find appropriate replacements but it proved difficult enough for him to push the project to the back burner. The sizes are very odd according to him.

Idk where you are finding these parts available but I’m almost certain they are nla with no plans of getting made in the future. Granted there are a bunch of sites showing them in stock but just try ordering and unfortunately you’ll be disappointed.

I tried to order a replacement tweeter 944-645-427-00 last year and was told then by Porsche that they don’t have stock of many old speakers for our cars.

I'll be trying to place an order soon. I'll let you know how it goes. My usual source for looking at availability is Jim Ellis Porsche in Atlanta, GA. I like their website and their prices are pretty good. https://www.porscheatlantaperimeterparts.com/

Yeh they all pull from the same parts database, Sunset, Seacoast, Sonnen, Gaudin, etc, they all show stock but none of them have them. I contacted Porsche Classics and they told me they had no plans to get more made.

That was a year ago so maybe things have changed, so I’ll be watching your efforts.

Btw, It changes but at the moment, out of all those Porsche dealerships who have an online parts portal, Gaudin in Las Vegas has the cheapest prices.

eg: 94464542700 Tweeter
Top Porsche Atlanta; bottom Gaudin

interesting. I wonder how they handle shipping? Jim Ellis is the most reasonable on shipping so far. I bought some body parts for my VW Tiguan and they only charged me $10 for FedEx shipping on wheel well trim.

The above is my experience only, though. I haven't used Gaudin in LV.

I'd be very surprised if either one of them can supply them....

So we're back to my original query...

Anyone have a workaround for the 10 speaker setup? Don't mind modifications, just want them to be in line with the vehicle's overall appearance.

I saved the text from a post about this in my phone notes (see below). I don’t know where I saved them from so apologies for not providing a link or crediting an author….
Sizes are 5.25in, 3.5in, and a 2in tweeter. Only a small amount was cut away using a dremel for the 3.5in. Grilles fit right over them with ease. They’re just 5.25 and 3.5in Rockford fosgates from Amazon. The tweeters are 2in massive audio also from Amazon.

I found a couple custom options for the 10 speaker door cards when I googled. Some were on here, but heres one that you may be able to get some ideas off of.

Just an fyi, you can get the original speakers repaired like new, so don’t throw them away in case you ever want to get back to stock. I had a couple repaired on my 10-speaker set and it wasn’t too expensive.

I was actually looking into this. I found at home foam repair kits, but everything is for a certain diameter. Glad to know it's commercially available and not stupid expensive. Thanks!

Haven't had a chance to dive in yet, but some of these may look promising: https://www.parts-express.com/speake.../mini-speakers

Don’t know if this helps but I came across it this morning looking for door cards. I also saw a bunch of 10 speaker frames on eBay.
