As I had earlier posted with my wiring hanress woes, I am helping a buddy put an 86 NA engine into an 89 chassis. We managed to track down a late-style wiring harness so the engine can mate up with the car's underdash harness, and the engine runs fine. Oil pressure reads normal.
The only problem is that the 89 car originally had an oil level sensor on the engine, and the early engine now in the car does not. So, the oil light stays on and thus does the "!" light.
Can I bridge the ends of the yellow-sheathed wires that would have gone to the oil sensor on the pan to make the system think its getting a normal signal, and thus make the warning lights go out? Or does it require a certain resistance in the circuit? I don't want to hack up the wiring until I know what technique will work. And no, we will not be backdating an oil sensor into the pan...
TIA SG
