That thing looks MEAN!!! I couldn't tell from the pics but I wonder if it still has a live rear axle or if ford is going with an independent rear.

Sorry...but yuck! They are looking less and less like a Mustang, and more and more like a japanese import. Then there's the GT-R nameplate (how original).

I dunno...the SVT Cobra is already in at 390/390, with 500hp being a couple grand away. As far as sheer power, the Cobra is the better buy...and you don't have to wait for it.

It (the Cobra) also doesn't look like a ricer's wet dream slammed into a standard Mustang at 100 miles an hour, resulting in a very confused looking Mustang.

I have never really been a fan of the Mustangs but Ford might change my mind with this one. Lets see if they have the ***** to go through with it. Looks mean as hell though!

Very, VERY nice work. Ford is stepping outside of themselves for this one (a Saleen production), but still. With this and the new Cobra concept, sheesh. Always been a fan of the specialty Mustangs, IROC and old-school IMSA V8 Production racing.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the "rice" statement, here and there. The "R" has been around longer than we may be remembering. In fact, GTR has been used quite a bit over the years to describe the best of the best - think of some late examples such as the Corvette GTR, M3 GTR - how about our own lineage of 924GTR and 944GTR. McLaren made a few GTR's In this specific case, the term is GT-R or Grand Touring - Race. Also, Mustangs have long had the "R" attached to specific models like the famous 1965 GT350R. This new car/concept is fully prepared, not glamorized. With a tube-reinforced chassis, racing-specific suspension, centerlocks, brakes as big as Ted Kennedy's head, and all the right safety and aerodynamic gear this car is not posing. The design is striking AND functional. It is the ART and SCIENCE of Motorsport - albeit big bore fantasy land - I think it would make a very welcome addition to the American Sedan type classes of Speed GT, etc. If you want to make a comparison of the term GTR in the "rice" community, then I suppose it would be okay to bring up one of the most dominant Asian engineered street/race cars ever, the Skyline GTR - not bad company to be in IMHO. I'm happier that nobody tries to use RSR.

As for styling, this thing reeks of "Eleanor" - the 1967 GT500 made popular recently by the film Gone in Sixty Seconds. To me, it's a perfect blend of current styling mixed with the GT500 and racing version GT350R's of the mid/late Sixties.

Anywho - it's neat - I like it for what it is.

I dunno. Maybe it'll grow on me. But if a Mustang was to be the star of Fast and Furious 3...I think this would be it.

I'm more a fan of subtle styling, so this thing just isn't my cup of tea!

This thing screams 1970 Trans Am Boss 302 if we're going to compare it with anything.

If they sell that thing for 40k....i'd buy one. Hell...i'd mortgage my house and buy two. LOL! Please....please....please let a carmaker sell a car that has a stripped down interior and that focuses on performance only. You know....like the cars Porsche USED to make.

I'm thinking it's almost an exact match for the 65 GT350R (front) and 67 GT500 (front/rear/sides). The tail lights are pure GT500. The front of the production model (new Mustang) is all mid sixties stuff. Headlights on the far outside and inset with secondary/driving lights in the centre grill area - low slung front air dam. The race version changes it up a bit - rear lights stilll match - they went a little less retor on the rear door area where there should have been a vent inlet. Instead, it's behind the wheels (where it makes more sense now). Luv the BOSS 302, but it had narrower headlights and the 3-vert strip tail lights.

It has the same front as the 1970 Mustang. This car has headlights where the 1970 version just had plastic covers. It's also the same color as the Trans Am Boss 302s.
