haha.. sorry to show it.. but its definately a chick car (in appearance). i know it is a great car for performance, but i just like to have a car that doesn't look feminine.. after all.. if your not tracking... your going the speedlimit and not reckless driving right? all thats left there is to look good.

Proof chick car..... also many good comments for you to view if you want to buy one. hope your not 6' or higher!

chick car?

The Miata is a great car...but it's smaller than the 944 series (room-wise). I have long legs, and had trouble fitting in an early 90's version a GIRL I knew had!

If you are medium height...the Miata is way smoother and tighter feeling (from what I remember)!

I've always thought the looks of the Miata were a little soft. But anybody seen the new Turbo? I kind of want one. Sort of a 2/3 951 Cab RS.

Are you going to be using this car mostly for street or mostly for track? I would say if it is going to be mostly track, you do not mind missing out on the amazing events Porsche puts on, and you are secure enough with yourself to drive it to the track then go for the Miata. I race in SCCA a little and it is discouraging how well the Miatas do. As far as realiability goes I do not really have any expierence with the Miatas but would assume they are significantly cheaper. On the other hand If you want the car as a daily driver, want to participate in Porsche events (which in my opinion are the nicest, cleasents most efficantly run events put on), and don't mind putting some money into matinence, you should become a member of the porsche family. The final choice is up to you so be sure your happy with it.

And they take a crash pretty well too. Or so I've heard.

My husband (who's 6' 3") used to have a Miata and loved it. There ARE very fun to drive, really easy to whip around corners.

I would never give up my 951, but there are days that I miss that Miata.

\I knew a guy who had a VW cabrio back then, IIRC the car was more of a "chick magnet" than the 911 he replaced it with

If you are in an accident in a 944 you can walk out of it and replace it with a Miata. I'm not this would work the other way around.

As a 944 and Miata owner I will comment on this. You guys that are saying that the Miata is a chick car, well I guess you are more concerned about image. I have a total of about $6500 into my Miata and it will completely destroy a n/a 944 and will slowley walk away from a stock 951 or 968. I have put 25k miles on the Miata in 1 1/2 years. A lot of that is at the Nürburgring and auto-x racing. I have never had to fix one thing on the Miata and even if I did it would be cheap! I have put $400 into the suspension on the Miata and it will easily leave my 944 which had about $800 in suspension work. The only downside to the Miata is the storage space. You can fit a lot of crap in the 944 when you fold the seat down!!

I have spent $2700 on a turbo setup for the Miata, has about double the original horsepower. This is not possible in a 944. You could maybe get about 30% more power for over $3,500!!

Now don't get me wrong, I really like 944's. They have a nice solid "german" feel to them. They are Porsches whether some people realize it or not. They are cool eighties cars (who doesn't love the 80's!)

But....when it came time to choose I picked the Turbo Miata over the 944 and I would any day of the week. Maybe that is because I choose performance and reliability over image and always fixing something...

I have a lot of experience with Miata's, my current one isn't my first. If anyone has any questions or anything feel free to PM or email me. Also a great source for Miata info is www.miata.net

I don't think you have to worry about timing belts snapping in the Miata!

Were it me, I'd hold out & get the MX5 turbo - that one looks sweet! It's a bit more than $5,000 though. . .

This "instructor", "GhettoRacer", crashed a rented miata on the track (into another car) and walked away with it. See page 15 of this thread (incidentally voted as being the best thread of 2003 on Rennlist):

It's really a much better read if you start from his first post and work your way up to page 15...........

I don't really care for convertables so rather have 944. $5000 can get you a really nice one too.

BTW... you can make 944 into a spec car for less than the miata and be faster at the track. I enjoy lapping spec miata's at the track. Of course those are realy the mid-pack runner and really slow guys. Fastest guys are close to the mid pack 944's.

Honeslty drive both and see which one you like more.

Tifo... Gettoblaster is not getting much track time anymore.

The details are however that he got hit by another Spec Miata after he spun and stopped in middle of track infront of the other guy. Other driver had nowhere go . Luckily no injuries. Happend at about a 75 MPH place on the track.

I'd consider it more accurate the other way around.
