Default 3 pin receptacle?

Hey everyone!

Just picked up a 1984 944 yesterday! I'm sure I'll be on here quite a bit asking questions and contributing where I can

I have a few issues that I'm sure I'll search and find answers to, but one that I can't seem to find is this 3 pin electrical receptacle on the dash. I think someone installed it as an aftermarket something-or-other...maybe immobilizer? I don't think it's factory, right?

Any ideas welcome

Thanks!

Correct, that is definitely not a factory connection. No idea what that might be.

No clue. Hair dryer

Welcome to the forum. Do yourself a favor and update your profile to list the year/model of your car and the city where you live. You never know, help may be closer than you suspect.

Also, noting that your question is one off and definatley worthy of a post, using the Search tool can be invaluable. For instance, if you were to search on "new owner" you'd probably be busy for the next week reading previous posts with lots of good tips to get you up to speed. As a example you will learn about the PET and Clarks-Garage. Hint- neither are the latest boy band from Korea. Also, use the Advanced Search feature and restrict you search to this forum. So you don't get a bunch of air cooled stuff.

Have fun with the new car.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Guess I have to rip it apart to find out Or maybe I'll just leave it alone so I don't break something else....lol

For sure harveyf, I'll update that now. Appreciated Yes, I've been on many, many car forums in the past and know to use search first or be flamed otherwise! hahaha.

Looks like some sort of immobilizer, likely aftermarket

Was not uncommon to have an additional fob on your keyring, push against this contact to read and unlock and then you would have a few seconds to start the car.

Obviously it would leave you stranded one day and as the car got older was probably bypassed.

Thanks! That was my thinking as well. It just looked so proper in that spot I figured I would check first if it was some factory option.
