Why even bother getting dirty and having to find somewhere to dispose of the oil. Take your oil and filter and have someone do it (should cost like 10 bucks in labor). Royal Purple for me thanks.

Aside: I have never understood changing your own oil. It is a pain in the ***, gets everything disgustingly dirty, and the oil should be hot when replaced (so it can burn you of course). I dont know about you guys but if I spend 20 mins doing it then I am at a loss (I make more in 20 mins than it costs to have someone else do it for me). I would rather do an engine swap than change the oil in a car. It is not like you can screw it up, even a moron at a quick lube can do it right. Then when you are done you get to cart around 5-6 qts. of oil while it spills little by little trying to find someone to take it (usually the lube place that could just have easily changed it!)Rant mode off.

I make more in 20 minutes than it would cost for an oil change too.......but not on weekends

Also, it seems like any moron could change the oil, but we know that morons at Jiffy Lube or wherever or more moronic than most....additionally, last time I took one of my cars to the local oil change/ car wash place to get a simple state inspection (only), the moron that inspected it decided to see if the cool Porsche could do a burnout as he drove around the back of the building, and everything that was loose in the car was shifted to the faaar right side. I'll do as much work on my cars as is within my grasp to do; leave the morons to abuse their own cars.

Bones - I guess I work too much, weekends are precious and best left to hanging out with my wife. Not enough time in life, I swear, if I worked 20 hours a day there would still be stuff left to do, I will even be in my office for a few minutes tomorrow cleaning up stuff left over from a business trip at the end of the week.

I spend $4 for putting it on a lift for an hour and know it's done right. Yeah the kid working at Jiffy lube can probably change the oil ( for $35) but 1/2 the time they miss alot of grease fittings. Also it's a good oportunity to inspect everything on the underside.

Grease fittings??? Where?? Ball joints are sealed, as is the chassis, where are there grease fittings? And if they charge you 35 bucks for labor you are being screwed. I usually pay between 8-10 bucks for labor or go to one of my stores and it is free, depends on my mood.

I was talking in general, not just on the Porsche........

The few times I have taken a vehicle to one of those places they seem to miss the hard to get to ones.

But hey, if you can get it done for free...more power to you.

I won't repeat the horror stories about the quick oil change places, but I like to use good filters and oil. Years ago, I stopped by a PennzOil place once and asked them the price. It was about $25. I asked the price if I brought my own filter, still $25. I asked if they had Castrol. Of course not, but I could bring my own and the price was still $25.

So if you want to use a good oil and filter, do it yourself. It takes about ten minutes including cleanup and there are plenty of places to recycle oil.

Well I guess I have to chime in "to Jiffy Lube or not Jiffy Lube". I personally take the two Suv to the lube store but I to have to admit I change the oil on the 951. I guess its a personal thing and to each his own. But to get back to thread I have read it is best to keep these cars topped off to the max as not to starve the engine during hard cornering. Which goes against how I always heard better to less than more! Any ideas, and stop getting Matt stirred up! Scott.

Scott - not stirred up just dont understand the concept. I think, given how much work I have done on mine, it is not a matter of lazy. Just dont understand it that is all! :>)

On a side note, check out the latest Excellence for some great commentary on the oil to run in our cars. Come to think of it, this last Excellence was one of the better ones in the past few years IMHO.

They recommend M1 15W-50 in our cars as well - my mechanic told me that 3 years ago.

I change my own oil in all of my cars. Usually pull 2 of them into the garage, let the oil drain on them both, new filters, and away you go. About 25 minutes for the both of them, and about $0.30 for a pair of rubber gloves. Always come out squeaky clean.

Personally, I just switched to Amsoil 20W50, but I have no review of it yet. Haven't even really let the car warm up since I put it in.
