And at $30 for the 4 bit set of SK bits, is it really worth it to buy the Lisle set for $15 and have them wear out after a couple of uses?

The reason I subscribe to that is because I snapped two torque wrinches at work in a month's time. I finally broke down and bought a SNAP-ON. No problems ever since. We're talking 218 ft-lb of torque, not some honduh engine.

I had no problems at all using the Napa tool in an impact gun. I just tapped the tool into place with a hammer, put the impact on it, and zipped the bolts out, and back in. I did both sides with the same tool, in the same manner, with no signs of wear....

My 8mm Lisle bit never did break although it only did maybe 2 sets of CV joints. It did have noticeable wear on it (same twisting as the 10mm one).

I'd like to do the Snap On one at maybe that one at some point, but right now there was more important things to do and I needed it done ASAP. I don't know when I'll ever need it again (hopefully never!) so I can't see paying $61 for the set right now myself.
Just FYI, Snap-on.com will ship via overnight mail. It'll cost you full retail plus FedEx (i.e., an arm and a leg), but they will get it to you overnight.

Pepboy's also has the cheap version.

Did you guys know that SNAP-ON doesn't make their own torque wrenches?

I always called 'em Allen wrenches... No cheesehead and definitely not triple square! Maybe I'm just messed in the head. But I'm sure if I asked the Sears man if he had any triple squares, he'd ask me if that was some sort of middle school game or something.

It's a different tool. Allen is a 6 point hex, where as the triple square/cheesehead, etc, is a 12 point. A standard allen can't be inserted into it. It kinda looks like a Torx hole but with 12pt instead of just 6.

Depending on the car, it could have either. My car happened to have both allen bolts and the 12pt. bolts.

I checked out the toolwarehouse website and i noticed their $50 order minimum. It phased me for a bit UNTIL i realized i also could pick up a set of nice SK regular socket allens for $34. Ordered both and i'm looking forward to using these...Thanks for the link Joe!

Joe - remember me from the email list? i think you helped me along with my clutch work not too long ago. I live up in Chadds Ford PA...Thanks again!

Later!
Erich

The ones at Autozone are called "12 point internal metric sockets".
They worked fine on removing my camshaft sprocket bolt and a regular allen head bolt that had been rounded out.

That place seriously rocks. You'll get 1-2 day shipping just like me since you are in the same area. I didn't realize you are in Chadds Ford. You must be less than 10 minutes from where I live now in North Wilmington.

I do know you from the mailing list which means I'm sure at one point in time I threw some advice out to you.
