Best winter tires and size?
I am in an area with lots of hills and possibly ice, so will definitely add snow chains when needed.
Stock size is 215/60/15, which is unfortunately limited in size, so I am thinking of going 205/60/15 or 205/65/15.
However, I would like to know if 205/65/15 clear snow chains. With stock size, it looks pretty full inside the wheel well area.
Looking at Michelin X-ICE 3/Continental Viking/Dunlop Wintermaxx. Bridgestone Blizzak seems like a good choice as well. Any suggestions?

My vote would be for the Nokian Hakkapeliitta's. There are studdable options if you need that too.
They are good enough that there are also cheap clones of the older versions of the tires on the market. Its kind of hard to spot them sometimes but you can tell by the tread pattern (The cheap clones usually don't have the same rubber compound though). For example Canadian Tire's inhouse brand Certified WinterTrek tires look pretty much identical to Hakkapeliitta 8's... Which who knows. They might even just be manufactured by Nokain under an agreement since the 8's are their last gen and they have the 9's for studded and R3's for non-studded out now. Always hard to know who's actually making what.

I've run Blizzaks for 10 years on my Pontiac G8 and they are absolutely incredible tires in the snow and very solid on ice (as solid as you can be). I ran Nitto SN2 on my wife's Civic and they were not nearly as good in light snow and ice. I only ran my 944 for 1 winter and made due with the all season Pirelli that came with it, so no real help there. I can't imagine there would be enough clearance for chains at stock ride heights. Most US states don't allow studs or chains on passenger vehicles so I can't really help on that either.
