Default Summer prep - AC blowing smoke

First off - Thanks for the info on switching to the manual sunroof. It is excellent to have the sunroof working and I love the manual simplicity.

Another one of my summer prep work is getting the AC working. I bought the car over the winter with info from the previous owner that the AC was not working.

I charged the AC system with R134a and - voila - she was blowing cold air. Sweeeeeet. The lights don't light up under the AC switch but who cares.

DUM DUM DUM ... but after running for about 4 minutes I see smoking coming out under the climate control beneath AC switch. Not lots of smoke but - just some small whiffs. Smells strongly of burnt electronics. Oh man - so close yet so far away.

So I guess I am going to pull the climate control box out and take a look. I am guessing I need a new one of these. However everything works fine as long as I don't use the AC.

Anyone know of any good links or write ups for this? Thanks.

There's lots of good stuff in the archives on replacing CCs. They come up on e-bay all the time, might be one there now.

Here's a freebie for you.
