Brake caliper interchangeability
Well today, I found that my front calipers are totally FUBARRED..and the frames are shot. I thought I could get some remans for my 83 944, but have to keep looking. Are there any other calipers that will bolt onto my spindles without any modifications? Perhaps 951's or later? I would like to get some upgraded braking, but don't really want to spend a fortune on them..that leaves out BREMBO...4 piston Porsche calipers? If so what model car did they fit on? Thanks for any help...

The stock brakes on a 944 are damn good even on the track. If you feel they are lacking it’s likely something is wrong and not because the calipers are up to the task.
Why do you feel like you need to upgrade?

@V2Rocket : That's a really cool thing to know about the Volvo calipers. For the S2, there look to be alternative injectors which are also from...Volvo. On the 928, alternative motor mounts also come from Volvo. Weird.
Or, maybe it was no surprise where Porsche ended up making the Boxster, since most of the interchangeable parts were already up in that region.
I'll go look in the stickies, but is there a curated list of verified alternative parts? For another example, lifters for the 928 and 944 can be replaced (much more cheaply) by VW parts.
Cheers

Thanks guys for the info! I tried looking today at AZ, but they are out of stock just like RockAuto...I have good new hydraulic units, but the frames are shot. I'll get up to you later on this one, Spencer.. I remember Michael's posts about the 240 calipers. My front Mintex pads are the correct ones for this app, but I still don't understand why that the hole in the pad backing plate is 1/4 inch off of the frame tang, and If I put the tang in the hole, the pin guide holes are 1/4" off..Baffling. This hole WAS for the tang on the caliper frame, wasn't it? Another purpose maybe?

Dear Gage: Thanks for the offer.. I don't get over to Boston very much, even though I know the way and it's about 2 hrs from where I live. I live in a small rural village about 15 miles out of Keene, NH, in the SW corner of NH between Mass and VT...PM me if you ever get over this way and I'll treat you to a coffee or a beer. I think I'll give the Volvo calipers a go...They sure would be able to get pads, etc a lot easier. I wonder if any of VW calipers might work? They are probably for a much lighter car, but on these early models, A lot of VW parts interchange. Perhaps I'll get over to Beantown one of these days and look you and Kevin over at Catellus up and say HI! I think that Obdurania lurks over near there as well....Hope that everyone stays safe and well during these Covid times.
