Selling the 944???

Have you thought about EBay? Put it on with a really high reserve, say $6-7K. You don't have to sell if the reserve isn't met.
Here in the Northeast, you never see one advertized less than $5-6K. Most are basket cases and probably not worth $2K. Usually they are driven with minimum PM and sold once repairs exceed owners means. Good examples such as yours command a higher price and are few and far between.
If you have time, shoot high and hold the price. Any excess funds could get you a flat screen for the new house or a new set of clubs.
Good luck.
PS: this week's paper:
89 944S2 5 spd blk met on blk, 146k $6,295
85 944 103k, needs TLC $5,500

I've considered eBay because I had such good luck selling my MG on there. But I know that I was lucky with that transaction - many never follow through with the payment, and I just don't have time for hassles. Plus with eBay, it cost $40 to list and another $40 when you sell, for a total of $80. If you get a deadbeat bidder, it can get expensive. I think I probably go with a top-of-the-line AutoTrader ad - you know, full color 1/4 page type deal. That's probably in the same price range as eBay.
I know about the values out here being higher. Trust me, in the past 10 years I've maybe seen 3 944s in the area (which would be about a good 100 mile radius). Seriously, 3 tops in 10 years - maybe less. There just ain't many 944s floating around Southeast Michigan - and I'm sure they are more sparse as you head north. Of the 3 that I've seen, they've all been junk.
Bottomline: If I can sell it quick and hassle free, I'll go as low as $5000. If I wait and think about it more, that price will probably go up. You can trust that if I list it in AutoTrader, the starting price will be $6500. A Rennlister would proabaly be the only one who would get a shot at it for $5000.
That flat screen does sound nice!!!

Your price seems very good as you describe it
I just bought this car for $3500 and it needs a new interior, power steering leaks and is full of air, rear hatch leaks and it surges when idling in drive.
