I sold my 88 NA in similar shape for $7200. I had the belts, rollers, brakes, and mounts done...but the clutch and shocks were original. I think $5000 is a killer price. Maybe start at $6500, and work your way down. It really makes a difference if the car has only 2 owners...and was well maintained by Porsche dealers!

Good luck with the house!

Oh yeah, by the way, the car also had a new clutch dealer installed at 69,000 miles. That helps too.

I just did a search on AutoTrader for 1985-1991 944s between $3000-4000 within 300 miles of my zip code. Result: 2 cars - All crap. One that I looked at before I bought mine - again, pure crap.

Another search at $4000 - $5000. Results: 10 cars - Lot's of high mileage cars, a few automatics and of course not one of them said anything about Dealer Records. They all looked rather rough - except for the 1 auto for $5000 - but who wants an automatic 944?

I'll leave this project up to Tifo - I've been there, done that - I spent almost 3 months trying to find the right car. I can't tell you how many hours that I blew sitting on the damn computer. Searching, searching, searching.

If I can't sell mine for $5000, then I'll never buy another 944 again - that would just be a joke.

No offense Robby - I know that there are a few automatics floating around & there are people who really like them. I honestly think that most prefer the 5-speed though - it's the whole sports car thing. Like an automatic Viper - seems kinda silly.

Thanks Micah! I'm not totally for sure that I'll let it go for $5000. Like AndyK said, I might start higher (around $6500) and go from there. I work in a building with one of the largest law firms in America - I might put it in their Office Classified Ads. Plus, for those of you that don't already know, Bloomfield Hills is like the Beverly Hills of Michigan - the medain home value is about $600,000. There's some money 'round here boy.

That's definitely a good idea. I nearly coughed Diet Dr. Pepper out my nose when I saw you only put 5k the first time around

I don't understand whats so silly about automatics.

Do know you what a tiptronic equppied 996 TT is capable of? How about a CL65. These my friend are not silly cars. Their just silly fast.

considering i could prolly sell my 83 locally for about 4,500...5000 would be a great deal on your car...IMHO and IMHexperience
good luck with the house
my parents just bought a house AND and brand new truck...they thought they would have to sell a couple cars (including: 65' Impala SS Convertible 427 550+hp, red w/ white interior) some how everything worked out fine and i can't see where we've really had to cut back on expenses

soo....here's to hoping everything works as well for you

Thanks for the support everyone - who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and not have to sell the car. We need 5% down, so we'll see where that ends up. You guys are all so cool - it's been a pleasure posting here.

Starr, i am currently sitting on purchasing a 944 thats literally around the block from me. If this does not work out, would you be willing to help arrange having the car shipped to the metro NY area? I am hoping this guy cracks eventually, but im not 100% sure he will. If you are still looking to sell, or havent sold it yet in the next few weeks...perhaps we can strike a deal.

Your car looks to be a much better example with having all front end service already done, this car im looking at would need to have it done imeditatley (so much so id tow the thing the .5 miles back to my house). My father woudl be hesitant however to ever aide me in purchasing a car i havent seen.

$5k is a steal for that beaut! I hope that you can keep that thing in the family here and find a good RL'er to buy it (techno... start talking to your dad about this!! No offense to the kraut burner, but sell it and jump on this!).

I'm looking to buy an NA this summer if my plans work themselves out, though I'd be looking for one of those "who told the previous owner he could ever own a Porsche?!" barely running sub-$1k 944's. Project car for the summer is what I need.

Techno-

I'll be there when the truck comes to pick up the car for shipping, but other than that, I don't really have to time to make the actual arrangements. I sold my old MG on eBay to a buyer in Arizona. He called a shipper, gave them the info, and a few days later they showed up to pick up the car. I had to sign a couple documents and give them the title, but other than that it was as easy as pie!

All you have to do is arrange (and pay) for a shipping truck and they pretty much do the rest. I think there are some prices available on eBay in the Motors section. Or you could just look up vehicle shipping online. I would guess that shipping to NY from MI would be about $500 or so.

Just for everyone's info, here's the recent maintenance:

T-Belt and Engine Seals - at 60,000 miles
951 Waterpump - at 63,000 miles
Clutch - at 65,000 miles

Current Mileage: 89,000
