I keeping getting these wierd pop-ups in the Rennlist page. Not over it, in it. I use Lavasoft Adaware 6.0 to remove spyware and it seems to work. I also use the Google toolbar to block popups and it seemed to work. Now all of a sudden I get this:
How do I get rid of it????????????

I don't get any popups.....have you updated your Ad aware lately? The new ones have an updateable database of files. Also, some programs you could install might not be in their database.....methinks something else you installed might have done that as well. I only use IE, Netscape always drove me bonkers.
Also, some "cheap" ISPs force you to see ads as part of the way to get cheap internet service.

Adaware is good - Spybot is better. You can download it for free also. Be careful running Adaware after you install Spybot. The Adaware will id some of the Spybot files as spyware. Obviously you would not want to delete those. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date as well. I had a worm on mine called Bookspaced that Spybot found but could not delete. Typed the worm into Symantec and follwed the info to edit the registry to remove the keys. Some of the worms create what we call a tickler file that goes back to the internet site it came from when ever you are on line. It then reinfects the PC in the background while you are surfing.

I'm currently using Earthlink. I'm switching to SBC/Yahoo DSL tomorrow. I haven't installed any new programs in a long time. Adaware has been updated. I also use Earthlink's Spyware blocker & popup blocker. They get removed but come back in a few days. I just was suprised with this one. I thought John D. was selling ad space on Rennlist. I've never seen one integrated into the page before.

I got Norton's Personal Firewall. Kills any and all ads on any site, makes things nice and clean (boring). But kind of bogs down my already slow and out dated machine. Hotmail for example is just the user name and password window, the rest of the screen is white

That's pretty cool....I run the ZoneAlarm free firewall and it seems to do very well at blocking all kinds of stuff.
Went over to a friend's house with cable and about every 2-3 minutes they had people sending them or bots sending them messages that would pop up on the screen that you'd have to close. Took me about 20 minutes before I was ready to scream. Stuck that on there and they were gone....
I'll have to look into that Norton one....I only have dial-up at home and waiting for those dang ads to load is a pain!

I use the Zone Alarm firewall and the mozilla firefox web browser for my web browsing. I used to use IE, but Mozilla demands much fewer resources, can open new tabs, and blocks the pop-ups.

I think I'll try the Mozilla. I probably should re-format the HD anyway but this is on the work computer and I really don't care if it dies. The popups are just annoying.
Thanks guys.

Here is a link to mozilla firefox. I briefly used mozilla 1.6, but my system seems to like mozilla firefox better. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

You guys are missing the basics:
1. go to windowsupdate.com and download all updates
2. go into services on your comptuer and turn of messenger
3. Download the XP firewall direct from Microsoft for XP
If the above are infected and not cleaned up, no spyware or pop-up-blocker will do a thing.

Think you've been hijacked. That is you are being redirected through another web site. Check your settings for homepage. Other wise the graphic would have been in it's own window and not intergrated into the top of the page.
