Question Engine removal / Wiring Harness

Does anyone have advice on engine removal and what to do with the harness?

Both Haynes and Clark's recommend removing the harness from the car, sounds like with the engine. Am I missing something?

thanks in advance.

Unhook harness from the inside of the car (DME,KLR and such), pull thru firewall then pull engine.

Or remove intake, unhook all harness connections in the engine bay and remove engine.

Not too much fun either way.

I already have the intake off. With the intake on, is it hard to get to the wiring on the engine. Because right now, it doesn't look like rocket science.

But all sources say to take it off.

Thnaks!

Hey dude, Just had to replace my engine harness a few months ago. It sucks. Advice..... Un hook the DME, pull it through the firewall. and unhook all the other points going to the chasis. MAKE SURE YOU MARK THEM!!! use masking tape on both sides. That goes for the vaccum lines too. A little extra work now makes it alot easier later. Long story short, Pull it with the motor. Good luck. P.S. MAKE SURE YOU DROP THAT MOTOR OUT THE BOTTOM!!!

When I pulled my motor I left the harness in place and pulled all the connections. My harness did not want to come out no matter what we did....yanking, pulling, cursing, begging....nothing. Finally I just unplugged the connections and I've been happier ever since.

Yeah, I just leave the harness in place. Unplug all the connectors and pull up the harness and drape it over the brake-booster. Gets it out of the way of the engine and that's it reall.

I believe the consensus is that you can do it either way.

I unhooked the harness from my engine first, draped it across the back of the engine bay, and lowered the engine out.

The only reason I can see for bringing the harness out with the engine is that the wires to the oil level sender (if you have one) and to the oil pressure sender are routed behind the belt covers. So unless you take the belts off the engine first, the harness has to come out with the engine. Or they might slide out from behind the covers. Not sure.
