Nice write up. That'll help when i put on mine. I have a 924 LeMans style valance that looks just like those ones except its designed for the narrower 924 rear I can't wait to put it on!
Still a few months away though...
Later!

Unfortunately, the early 85 probably will not have the pre-drilled holes in the valence pan. I just installed a 951 apron on an 84. It's a little tricky so be sure to "measure twice, drill once." The holes through the rear quarter panel should be moved up just a tad from your bolt marks to ensure the the valence fits tightly at the curvature of the lower fender.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Carl,
Looking at your web page, I've got to ask a few things. Are you the original owner? I assume that is not the original paint though, am I right? Would you mine my asking what you spent to paint it? How recently?
I would like to do the full Nology wires, chip, headers, MSD package you did. The valence is in my garage awaiting install.
Maybe the NA is never going to be truly "fast" but it can be excellent and yours is the standard I aspire to. Really, truly an excelent example of what the NA can be, kudos.
I bought mine from the original owner - a family member about 3 years ago. The car had been undriven, stored for almost 7 years, 59,200 miles when I got her. 98,000 today. Frankly? I love that car even if it isn't the fastest on the road. I will set mine up very similarly to yours (minus the Fuchs -drat!). with all the performance goodies. Any particular advice if you were ddoing it again? Still happy with that chip or is a Steve WOng any better? I';ve heard both. The MSDS intake - huh? Not familiar. Is it a cone filter in leiu of the original box or other?

Dan, you were lucky to find a well cared for, one owner car!
Considering the mods on my car, it may seem strange for me to say this... my recommendation is to keep it original. Or if you modify it, keep the original parts to retain the option to return it to stock. It's fun to tinker with and modify these cars but Porsche got it pretty close to right at the factory.
I bought the gray car new in 84, ran it in autox's and DE's in the 80's & 90's but for most of its twenty years it's been pampered. Last year I began to detail it to a pretty high degree. The car is mostly original paint, excepting a front clip respray several years ago and recent paint for the vented header panel, front spoiler and rear valence. I always used pure carnuba wax and the twenty year old paint still looks new.
If you intend to add performance mods, concentrate on the suspension, tires and brakes and really learn to drive it. You might want to check out FR Wilk's site re a DME chip but most other changes you can make in the engine area are not truly cost effective. They tend to change the everyday drivability of the car and only add a little power at higher revs.
But, only my .02 worth... Have fun with it!
