Default Cruise Control Computer Extraction

Anyone out there know how to remove the cruise control brain for an early 85? I think it's the silver box behind the stereo in the center console but space is kinda tight in there what with the carpet pieces on the sides of the center console, the wiring, stereo, etc. I can't see exactly how it's connected. . .

On the earlier ones it's supposedly in the location I mentioned. I looked in the drivers footwell too, but there's nothing there except fuses, relays, my DME box and a dead rat (just kidding about that last one).

Early 944's ('82-'85) it is behind the radio buried in the center console. Mounted with two phillips head screws, requiring removal of a cover or two on the underside of the dash to get at it. Late 944's ('85.5 on up) it is behind the carpet on the driver's side footwell next to the hood release. Mounted with two M6 (10mm hex screws).

On the driver's side, remove the black contoured cover (if it's still there) located at the forward lower end of the center console. The cruise brain sits right on top of the transmission tunnel and has a large black plastic electrical connector going to it. The connector is removed by carefully pulling it away from the module (no locking mechanism other than the pin friction). You will see two phillips head screws on the aft (right) side of the cruise box that hold it in place. It will slide out towards the driver's side.

Yes you can drive without the cc box installed. It makes no difference to the DME.
