924 Gtp supercharged?
Hey I saw this picture of what's supposed to be a 924 Gtp engine and it's clearly wearing a centrifugal supercharger, I was wondering if this is something Porsche ever actually did in any of the 4 cylinder transaxle cars.
thank!

LOL - nice thought, but no, that's actually a dry sump oil pump system, common racing parts. Note all the oil fittings. Kugelfischer mechanical injection pump right above.
Water pump install is REALLY entertaining, hanging out front there looking like a little snail...

Oh yeah I guess I was looking at the water pump, but I do know dry sumps!

Cool - yeah, I sorta realized halfway through that you might be looking at that water pump... Derp!
They figured out on the 2.0L cars that it was more helpful to run the cold water into the back of the block, instead of the front, as those rear cylinders always run hotter. Let's face it, these are air-cooled engines too. But in mass production it's of course easier and cheaper to run it from the front, up where the water pump drive is.

looks like a hell of a fuel pump above the oil pump, too.
OT but Porsche *did* experiment with superchargers on the 944S, i believe a centrifugal and a roots type with various drive ratios. they found improved power and torque output but it was a lot of complexity for the gains. i have a page about it somewhere, probably from some tech journal from the 80s.
