Default Easy Question I hope

How do you get the shift **** off the lever. I know its a dumb question but I couldnt' figure it out. I tried pulling it off and that didn't work. The reason I ask is because I'm putting on a new boot. TIA

Pull the boot up all the way and you will find where the **** slides over the shift lever. Then look for the spring wire retaining clip that goes around the **** base. It is retangular shaped. Just pull that off and the **** will come free.
