Speeding Ticket
Well, I got pulled over today for the first time.
The cop says I was doing 60 in a 30, wrote the ticket for 57/35. This was at night, dark straight away no cars, V1 didnt go off till he hit me with the radar. I told him I was doing some work to my car earlier (which was true) and wanted to run it before I got on the highway. That didnt help, but it was what I was doing.
However, there are several things on the ticket wrong. He wrote the date as 3/12, but it's the 11th. Also, the name of my street address is spelled wrong.
Should I be able to get the ticket dismissed based on those mistakes in Massachusetts?
It seems to me like having to date wrong is a big deal. Also, I'm not sure how I will prove that it happend on the 11th, not the 12th. I took a picture of the ticket next to my cell phone which displays the date, and I cant change the date on that, it automaticly gets it. Should that be enough? I'm assuming the cop wont argue that it happened on a thursday not a friday, thus making it the 11th.
Anyone have any thoughts or other ideas?
TIA
Conor

I dont know about Mass but here they have gotten my name, plate number and everything else wrong and it didnt matter, If its a first ticket just get a prair for judgement and dont get another ticket for a while, if not I would hire a lawyer. Thats enough here to lose you license or at leat make your insurance go sky high.

You should ask if was drinking on the job . I really don't think it matters if the date or the street is wrong still your name on it and your DL# now if that is wrong forget about the ticket. Just go to court say have a good story and they judge will probably drop the points on the ticket you still have to pay for court fees and ticket but it will be better in the long run then your insurance bill.

I don't know if you can do this, but here in Canada you just go down to the court house and talk to the crown prosecutor's office. If you go in, instead of having a court date, they will usually throw out the points right away, because it saves them money, and if you have a good story (funny, or real?) they will usually reduce the ticket.
I have yet to see somebody go to the CP's office here in Calgary, and leave with points (for anything under 7 demerits).

pay the ticket and take it like a man. you were speeding, you got caught. if there's a traffic school to take the points off do it.
why does everyone want to weasel out of their responsibility??? the law is the law (as crappy as you might think it is) and if you're breaking it, fess up.

lol... I don't think that would be a good idea, cause then you might be assured a ticket, as I'm sure a few would be following you around

Go to the court and get them to date stamp the ticket, or do something to verify that you were in the court BEFORE the ticket was issued.
Then try your luck with the prosecutor or judge.
Good luck. Nobody wants the boost in insurance rates that often goes with a speeding ticket.

Conor,
Of the two tickets that I got in MA, I was completely let off for one, since I showed up in court for the trial date (plead not guilty in the mail), and the officer was not there.
I've had many other tickets reduced just by showing up.
Good luck.

I spoke with a local lawyer today, and I think I will be able to get this dismissed. I made a copy of the ticket and had it notarized with the date and time, 9 hours before it was issued.
I''m hoping that will be enough to get this thrown out.
Thanks for the advice so far!
