Default VW powered Porsche kit car?

No, it's not a speedster or a 550. It's a 911 replica. Powered by a GTi motor. Apparently there are a lot of these Covin things running around:

Can it only be a matter of time before Covin comes up with a 944 replica?

So where is the kit? What did the chassis start as? A GTI? Or did they drop a GTI motor into a 911?

No, it looks like it started as a VW bug chassis, with a fiberglass replica 911 body on it.

You can't help but wonder if the people who own these cars could have just picked up a daily driver SC for the same amount of money.

1) There are loads of them in England
2) The work on the ones I saw was pretty damn good
3) They are damn cheap, compared to a 911, at least what I saw
4) They are probably a MUCH lower insurance group. Someone correct me but I believe a 911 is a group 18,19, or 20 which makes ownership out of reach for some drivers.

Ugh, horrible. Like pretend F355s based on Fieros. Plus many of them have 1600cc Ford engines

I can kind of understand the motivation - buying / running a 911 in the UK is expensive. But for the price of one of these things you can get a nice rustfree California import 912... or even better, a 944!

BTW...Pontiac bought 308s and "choppped" them up when designing the Fiero. One reason the 308/328 kits are so popular with the Fiero crowd. Can you say "Mera"?

A VW under 911 cloth with GTi engine? Can you think Frankenstein? The purpose of so much work is beyond me. Although I remember from the heydays when VW's used to be customized to the tilt. But at least they spent most of the time and resources on the engine and chassiss. Or they'd remove the body entirely making it a dune buggy.

Thinking about it, these folks are doing things backwards.

A 911 engine in a Beetle, THAT would be fun

I used to be into the VW scene. There were (are) quite a few beetles running around with 911 engines running gear. They are incredibly fast but the short wheelbase makes them pretty spooky to drive!

MAN...what a bunch of hypocrites. What happened to " you basterdized that car!" or "I wouldn'y be caught dead in that POS!" Someone bolts a porsche engine in a VW and its "cool" or " thats great!" But put some good ol' American Iron in a 944 and some of you think we're a Judas or something! Think I'll go hunting this afternoon and take my frustration out on on some poor, unsuspecting 951!
