Smile Painted wheels, PICS

When I bought this car, it had highly corroded BBS knock-offs with gold paint peeling and flaking everywhere. They looked horrible. Finally, after more than two years, I stripped them and painted them.

The color is "Graphite." I'm quite pleased with the way they look on the car, but of course, anything would've looked better than before (sorry, no "before" pics).

Oh yeah - THANK YOU TIFO for some great advice!!!

I'm appearantly too stupid to post more than one pic at the same time, so I'll reply to my own thread.

Here's a rear (the first pic is a front, notice the difference in the seating of the lug nuts on the deeper wheels?).

One more pic, just 'cause I like seeing more than a quarter of the car.

Nice Dale- I work near Fairfield.. Look for me on the road- rare guards red.

the wheels look great! I was gonna pick up some BBS wheels but they were gold (And Patti said they would look like ***) I just may and paint them like yours. Nice stuff.

Nice job Dale! That looks way better than before. I may have a before pic in my vast archives that I could post for you. I'll look around.

Nice pics! I am 'thinking' about starting a wheel refinishing project myself soon. How did you strip the old paint? I have seen conflicting posts about using paint remover vs sanding. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Pete - how much of my life do you have chronicled? Just kidding, but even that picture made them look better than they did in person.

Erich - I guess "Sanding" would be close to what I did. I used a drill and about every imaginable bit - wire brushes, stones, etc. Actually, a masonry bit is what did most of the work. Keep in mind my wheels looked BAD! They were extremely corroded. I don't think I would've used power tools if the wheels weren't so bad off to start. I also used Naval Jelly on some of the corrosion.

Dale.

It's like my car's twin... How cute. They even live near each other.
I've even got the same wheels, but mine are still gold. Actually, they're in good shape though.
I had a set of 15" rims like those on, but found a set of 16's that are identical, which are on the car now. I guess I'm wierd, but I think they look like they belong on the car. Must be an 80's thing or something.

I'll try and attach a picture. From when I was at 2003's 944fest.

Tifo - thanks again for your help.

Greg - that is eerie! It's like seeing my car someplace, but I know I never went there. What brand are yours? My center cap (yes, singular) said "MSW." Are yours 7" and 8"?

I have two sets of them, the 16's and the 15's. They are both sets of BBS wheels. If you look on the faces of the 16" set, they say both BBS and mahle (the company that makes pistons, ect.). I've wondered if the 16" set that I have are forged, but I really have no idea. The 16" set are 7" and 8" wide. I'm running potenza RE-730's 225's on the front and 245's on the rear.

The only major thing different between our cars that I can see is that I don't have the rear light bar thingy on mine. What interior do you have in yours?
