Default To Dude with 3d 944 model

Any chance of sending us the file, so I can play with it in 3d studio? I want to render some sexy pictures of my car.

His username is turbo944, if you want to PM him. Also, he did his in Lightwave; I don't know if the formats are compatible.

Here's mine, not quite done yet, and the detail is not quite as good as his lightwave model, but mine will be used in Vice City and Viper Racing.

That "dude" would be me.....

At this time my model is about 95% done (some interior stuff is lacking although you'll never see it from the outside which is about 99.5% done now.

Problem is......I don't know that I can send to anybody who doesn't have LightWave without a major effort.....or even if they did have it! The file is quite a few MB in size in LightWave format, not inlcuding the textures for it which will add some more to that. Not a lot, but probably another 200k. Just for fun I decided to try and export it into 3DS format, which you could load up. The model, in a slightly lower res on the body than I normally render it, comes out to be 865,XXX triangles. Yes, that's right....not far under 1 million triangles. It laughed at me when I tried to export it. 3ds files have a max of 65k triangles in them. I beat that by roughly 13 times.

At the moment, I'm also a bit hesitant about releasing a version of this that anyone could use. I'm working to become a 3D artist and this car will be featured on my demo tape. I'd prefer only one person (me) rendering the car for the present time with the amount of time and effort I've put into it. I'd prefer no possible employer see it rendered by someone else and have to wonder if the work is really mine or not when they see my tape or site. In the future I may have it for sale (or perhaps free) and take the time to convert to other formats as I have also invested some fairly significant time into it at this point and I have lots of goodies for it so far and many more to come, such as this phone dial..... No offense, just want to make sure there is no question that the work is mine.

BTW, that's a nice looking S2 you have there....

Speaking of phone dials.....nice looking game model Rich! If I had either of those games, I'd be pestering you for a copy of that Wish I even had time to play games....

Speaking of which....my latest Rainforest Green.....which in every image I have, does appear to have more blue in it than I would think it does. Still not quite there yet I don't think....wish I had a paint chip to scan in.

Anybody?

Ask Duke, he may have something from when he painted his 951 for you to use. Also, nice phone dial. I could see how you made the car with the line drawings from the model, but wheels, man. My 3D work is so inferior to yours it isn't funny. Anyways, check with Duke and good work so far.

Edit-Oh, and btw, would you mind getting on MSN?

Thanks

I figured out one more thing tonight trying to do a Guards Red version of that same shot. Should fix the problems with the color, too.

Thanks for the input Damien...and the links!

No worries, I understand that you've stuck a lot into it and would be reluctant to just give it up for someone for no good reason. I take it a pic of a red 944 with my wheels on would be out of the question too eh?

I'll be looking forward to seeing the final version, it looks great, but you meed some coloured centre caps!

Good look with the artist job.

Thanks.....

Nope....I plan on doing red, green, gray, etc. images of the car. In fact once I get a final image done (perhaps a circle of cars or several different ideas), I'm going to see who might be interested in a print/poster to hang on their wall or maybe t-shirts with a single car on them or something that way. I plan on showing it off as much as possible. I'll do other wallpapers and things like that too. As all of that will be on my personal site for downloading so anybody seeing shots of it will know where they came from. There won't be other images of it out there that were not rendered by me, which is where my concern lies if I start giving it away.

All righty....special thanks to Damien for helping me find a chip color online that I could use to base my paint color on for rainforest green. I think it's getting there now

In life there are a few things I wish I posessed, the ability to do art is among the top 5.

Really excellent work, might take a look as the hatch where it meets the rear 1/4 window, looks like the roof disappears.
