Default New visitor and my 968 coupe is on Ebay!

Okay, I am a new Renlist visitor and this is my first post. I came here to direct potential buyers to my 1993 Porsche 968 for sale on Ebay (current high bid $2800). here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2463945709

This looks like a good forum. Maybe some one can talk me out of selling my Porsche, after I just spent $1300 on timing belt and water pump and enjoyed sitting in 5 mph traffic all the way home in a car capable of 153 mph.

Dude.... Its a Porsche.
You don't want to sell.
You won't need a timing belt and pump for a while

"Its a Porsche"

That is a good argument, and almost sways me to cancel the auction early.

However, I don't really think my car can be enjoyed fully in the Chicago area. whenever I rent a car in the Munich, Germany area, I really wish I had my 968 with me because the roads are so incredibly smooth, fast and well designed. In suburban Chicago, all I get in my 968 is a teeth chattering ride from Mayor Daley's political payoff road repair company (his relatives).

I leave my 968 in the gargae more often than not in favor of my e34 or 1995 740il BMW, which are more capable of deilivering a satisfying ride in my area.

just my opinion.

Yeah, I thought it was just me that noticed the roads considerably smoother in Europe, but I guess not.

Another way of looking at that is would you rather this car wound up in the hands of a non enthusiast? I say let the guy tell us he's selling. 968s are rare enough as it is.
YMMV

Luis de Prat,

Not your imagination, the roads in Germany are about twice as thick as USA, and better construction. There is no comparison. Is Spanish road condition similar to Germany?

How much is a membership to this site?

Hi jasons968,

Spanish roads are kept to Euro standards and are definitely smoother than what I've encountered in the "Americas."

As for membership here, it's a piddling $17/year, but I still think we should welcome folks like yourself selling interesting cars gratis.

So, what if all the dealers start posting here? It's a slippery slope. I can handle members and people who have been here for a while and contributed.

If not, they can always buy an ad. Do you know this guy Luis?

No, I do not but if you've bothered to check out his ad, he doesn't exactly appear to be a "dealer."

And even if it was a dealer, how many "dealers" are selling 968s? I'd still rather they post them here for us to pick and choose. Not a whole lot of these cars out there anyway and it's not like we've invited the Ford Taurus sellers to get on the Band Wagon.

If the guy's getting out of the 968 I see no wrong in him giving us enthusiasts first dibs on purchasing the car without becoming a full blown member.

I'm sure your "trained eye" could separate the wheat from the chaff no matter what ad came our way.

YMMV

I'm curious why it says "1980 Porsche : 968 968 Coupe" in the title. I was under the impression that the 968 line ran from 1992 to 1994.
If you can deal with having an automatic, keep it. It's still a 968. If it was a manual, however, I'd try to convince you to sell it (to me...cheap).

Jason,

How bout some serious questions.

How long have you owned it?

Was the transmission disc replaced? if so when?

cam chain tenisioner, when was it replaced (not timing belt tensioner).

Why was the car repainted? What is the accident or theft history of the car, if any?

Was the title always clean, or was the car once salvaved and repaired to the proper standard to have the salvage removed?

Did the car ever have any water/flood damage?

how far are you from o'hare or midway?

thanks
