Default The 951 UNDERbody....???

I read an article, long ago, talking about the aerodynamic improvements of the 951 over the 944NA- the underbody panels, etc, that reduced Cx from .35 to .33- it said that the best term for it was possibly to call it a "fanny pan" as it does something to cover some section of the exhaust, possibly(?). I'm wondering- does ANYONE have any pics of the ENTIRE underside of a 944 turbo or Turbo S, etc? How many underbody panels are there? I know there is the one that comes off the chin spoiler- when people buy aftermarket chin spoilers, like the guy w/the DARK GREEN 951 (Sweden I think- Duke?)- do they still have that section that hangs nuderneath? Anyway, there is another pan directly behind that which is tied directly to this piece in two places- is there another? Any pics or part #'s, etc?

thanks
Robby

It sure would be nice if a tuner would make CF replacements of the belly pan.....considering almost every 951 is missing them. damn lazy POs and mechanics. while they were at it make panels for all the way back, have the bottoms of our cars as smooth as the elise'! but i guess not every tuner has a wind tunnel hehe.

robby for the air splitter (the one like duke has) it does have a panel underneath that replaces the front cover under the bumper...but not the one after it (the fabled fanny pan). not sure about GT racing or the other splitters though.

There's 8 panels that I know of:

1. batwing
2. engine belly-pan 1 (fibreglass)
3. engine belly-pan 2 (aluminum)
4. left side-skirt
5. right side-skirt
6. driver-side panel
7. passenger-side panel
8. rear valance.

"It sure would be nice if a tuner would make CF replacements of the belly pan...."

Actually, I'd like to see a 1-piece panel that replaces the batwing and both of the belly-pan with quick-release fittings. Way too troublesome to remove them all the time, especially for oil-changes. The stupid brass oil-pan drain valve I bought from Performance Products doesn't even aim the oil-downwards like the picture shows. When you open the valve, it shoots the oil sideways!

The best panel that I've seen on a 951 was at Willow Springs; a rear diffuser! It had removed the rear bumper and the valance as well as most of the spare tire-well in the trunk. The diffuser started at the torsion-bar carrier and a central cover for the tranny. On both sides of that was expansion tunnels that were sealed against the bodywork on both sides and the rear as well. Very nice, unlike some of the crappy bolt-on stuff you see on Corvettes and Vipers. The most silly one I've seen was on that one ALMS Corvette a couple years ago that stuck out back end by like 3 feet!

I still have that second section, I always thought it was called a belly pan. It's metal, and extends about to the end of the front wheel well or so I think. And it actually is a tremendous pain in the *** to take off and put back all the time. I had mine off a while ago, here's a pic of it (dunno the part number though:

Aeroquip makes a valve that requires a female hose fitting to be inserted over it. Once it clicks into place, the oil drains out a hose. The only problem is that the hexagonal wrench flats are too big for the recess of the 944 oil pan. Perhaps a small sleeve could be fabricated that would seal it.

Try taking a 6" piece of hose & slipping it over the end of the drain, using the hose to direct the flow.
